LONG BEACH SOROPTIMISTS SEEK WOMEN'S OPPORTUNITY AWARD APPLICANTS

Long Beach, CA -- (PRnetwire) -- November 1, 2001 -- Soroptimist International of Long Beach is seeking head-of-household women who need financial assistance while they are acquiring job training or a college degree. Applications for the "Women's Opportunity Award Program" are now being accepted.

Applications for the "Women's Opportunity Award Program" may be obtained from Judy Hirsch (562) 596-6915.  The deadline for their return is December 15, 2001. Applicants must be residents of the Long Beach, California area.

Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International of Long Beach (SILB) is part of Soroptimist International, an international volunteer service organization for women in business, management and the professions.  

Long Beach, California members join the 100,000+ Soroptimists in 119 countries and territories to contribute time and financial support for community-based projects benefiting women.

Since 1972, the Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards Program has aided women who must enter the work force or upgrade their employment status.  Each year, almost $1 million in Women's Opportunity Awards are granted to women, enabling them to offset the costs to attain higher education or additional skills and training-such as books, child care and transportation
