ABOUT THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF LONG BEACH
The Junior League of Long Beach, Inc. (JLLB) mission is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
The JLLB started in 1936 as the Junior Charity League with the Children's Dental Clinic with a donation of $100,000 to start the clinic. Since then we've contributed $1,138,527 to the Long Beach community through projects and community service activities. Our members contribute 60,000 -70,000 hours of voluntarism per year.
The JLLB position statements consist of:
Adolescent Pregnancy: The JLLB is committed to addressing the problem of adolescent pregnancy and will advocate for programs and legislation which seek to prevent unintended adolescent pregnancies, and which answers the educational, social and medical needs of those affected by it.
Children: The JLLB is committed to ensuring that children have all the opportunities, resources and services necessary for their physical, emotional, mental, social and economic welfare. We will direct our efforts to see that these needs are met, through individual involvement, project and/or committee work and advocacy efforts.
Cultural Heritage: In keeping with the past position of advocacy and participation, it is desirable and valuable that the JLLB continue to monitor and when appropriate, involve its membership in the significant cultural heritage issues of Long Beach. In doing so, the membership is offered the opportunity of joining with other community leaders in an effort to preserve both the architectural and cultural treasures, which document the beauty and historically important past of Long Beach.
Homeless: The JLLB is committed to the development and support of programs and projects that provide services and resources to the needy and homeless population in our community. We may also support appropriate local, state and federal legislation created to alleviate the problem of homelessness.
Substance Abuse: The JLLB recognizes the existence of an escalating problem of substance abuse. This necessitates the commitment of the membership to support the following: education, prevention, treatment, legislation, rehabilitation and advocacy.
ABOUT THE CITRUS SWING ORCHESTRA
The Citrus Swing Orchestra is an 18-piece big band that has fast become a favorite for civic, corporate and community events throughout the Inland Empire and surrounding Southern California locales.
Formed in 1996 as a section of the Moreno Valley Community Band, the CSO sustains the heritage of the great Swing Orchestras of the Ô30s and Ô40s with the full sound that can only be created by five saxophones, four trombones, and four trumpets, backed up by a solid rhythm section -- drums, guitar, piano and bass. After a long wait, we're pleased to welcome a vocalist, Sheryl Greenwood, who brings an exciting and unique song style to many of your old favorites.
