Commonwealth Information Security Center at James Madison University Awards Grant to Richmond Air, LLC
RICHMOND, VA - February 24, 2004 /Send2Press Newswire/ -- James Madison University's (JMU) Commonwealth
Information Security Center (CISC) presented its second small business grant of the year to Richmond Air,
LLC ("RichmondAir" - www.richmondair.com). RichmondAir is a Virginia-based company that provides wireless
broadband connectivity and network services to Richmond and Virginia businesses, rapidly establishing
themselves as the premiere provider of wireless technologies in the metropolitan Richmond area.
RichmondAir will use the grant proceeds to develop Rapid Response Disaster Recovery (R2DR) products that
ensure critical network services against interruption by natural disaster, accident or terrorism.
RichmondAir is a young and rapidly growing company headquartered in Richmond Virginia. Sensing a market
need for high bandwidth wireless connection services, the Company launched its marketing effort last year
and quickly captured the "high ground" in Richmond's broadband wireless marketplace, obtaining key
agreements with major partners for transmission locations and high speed access to larger networks. When
Tom Bowden of McCandlish Holton PC (counsel to RichmondAir) made them aware of the CISC grant program,
they saw a great opportunity to enhance their product offerings while furthering the goals of the CISC
initiative.

The CISC is a statewide, multi-university center with a focus on information security and assurance. The
JMU center was founded in July 2001 with a grant from the Commonwealth Technology Research Fund of
Virginia and is managed within JMU's Institute for Infrastructure and Information Assurance (IIIA). The
Center's research emphasizes bridging the gap between basic research, and industrial technology
development and commercialization. The Center also aims to create a program with Virginia industry that
addresses the areas of computer and network security, computer network assurance, information assurance-
related policies and standards, and holistic approaches to information assurance and system dependability.
