BOSTON, Mass., June 23 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- A North Kingstown, Rhode Island kitchen designed by Arclinea Boston has won a Chrysalis Award for Best Kitchen Remodel in the Northeastern United States. "To win an award in this highly competitive category is quite an achievement," says Ken Kanline, director of the Chrysalis Awards, which were founded in 1994 to recognize the nation's best work in seventeen general categories of residential remodeling.

This year's winners were selected from more than 536 entries, which were judged by a team of design editors and writers. Entries were judged on overall design, creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.

The award-winning Arclinea Boston project posed some interesting challenges. The original kitchen was dated and awkward, with large, bulky cabinetry hanging over a central island, blocking views from the kitchen's work area to its dining space, reducing functionality, and preventing the flow of natural light. The homeowners-a couple with several young children-wanted a more inviting and family-friendly space within the footprint of the existing kitchen that would offer room for comfortable cooking, foot traffic, better sightlines, and additional storage.

Working with Boston architecture firm Ruhl Walker Architects, Arclinea crafted an elegant and inviting kitchen of warm gray oak cabinetry, granite countertops, and an array of integrated appliances. By introducing deep drawers and pull-out pantries, the Arclinea design provides more storage than ever before-even following the removal of the large cabinetry unit that had hung over the island. The new island, wrapped in bright white granite, is an elegant and functional centerpiece that offers additional storage space, a prep sink and built-in disposal. The award-winning kitchen is carefully designed to serve multiple needs, accommodating both serious cooking and casual gathering.

"We're thrilled to share this Chrysalis Award with the talented team at Ruhl Walker Architects," says Arclinea Boston president Philip Guarino. "They worked closely with us to craft an exceptional new kitchen that is no bigger than the previous one, but with a meticulously reconsidered redesign, takes far better advantage of available square footage, resulting in a vastly improved room."

Photos of the Chrysalis Award-winning kitchen can be viewed at: arclineaboston.com/arclinea_contemporary_family_kitchen.html.

Arclinea Boston is the first flagship showroom in the United States for Arclinea-an industry leader in the manufacturing of luxury, contemporary kitchens, designed and coordinated by the acclaimed Italian architect Antonio Citterio. Arclinea kitchens are differentiated by their innovative design, creative technology and exquisite materials. The Boston showroom showcases examples of the entire Arclinea Collection, and offers consumers a full-service, turnkey solution to their kitchen design process.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 23 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Charlie Allen Restorations, the Cambridge, MA - based full service design-build firm, has won a 2008 Chrysalis Award for the best residential interior renovation in the Northeast United States. The company previously won Chrysalis Awards for Best Historic Renovation Design-Build in 2006 and Best Commercial Historic Renovation in 2004.

"Winning awards in multiple categories is difficult to do. Not only does this speak to Charlie Allen Restorations' versatility, but to their commitment to quality on every project," says Ken Kanline, director of the Chrysalis Awards.

The firm's latest award is for a master bath with adjacent dressing area that was newly built within an 1853 Greek Revival house. Previously a hallway/bedroom, the new space was desperately needed.

"The owners of the home had suffered with an awkward floor plan that placed their only bathroom on the ground floor-downstairs and on the other side of the home from the master bedroom," says Charlie Allen. "They asked us to craft a master bath that would provide all necessary modern amenities while still complementing the historic character of the home."

The resulting bathroom features a glass-encased shower with generous rain-shower style showerhead and steam jets placed throughout. A transom window can be opened during a regular shower or easily closed to take advantage of the steam function. White subway tiles line the shower stall, which includes a seating area with handheld showerhead to make tasks like leg shaving easy and comfortable.

The room features two wash sinks, including one in the private toilet closet. An electric towel warmer and radiant floor heating make the room cozy even on cold winter mornings. Abundant storage is provided with a handy closet, accessible both from the bathroom and from the dressing area outside the bath, allowing freshly laundered towels and other necessities to be placed without entering the bathroom.

Although placed against an interior wall, the space is well lit, with clerestory windows and a frosted glass door letting in abundant light from tall windows lining the adjacent hallway/dressing space.

This project was previously named Boston Globe Magazine's 2007 Bathroom of the Year award and won a 2007 Contractor of the Year (CotY) Award.

The Chrysalis Awards program, begun in 1994, recognizes the nation's best work in seventeen general categories of residential remodeling, as well as regional and national Remodeler of the Year winners. This year's winners were selected from more than 536 entries, which were judged by a team of design editors and writers. Entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.
PORTERSVILLE, Pa., May 5 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Stacking resin chairs and tables from Adams Mfg have many advantages over other, more expensive options for the patio. They're strong, comfortable, and easy to store when they're not being used. And, they are all 100% recyclable. Now, with bright new colors and styles to choose from, they are the best option for the porch, patio, or deck.

Several paint companies manufacture spray paints for resin products, including furniture. However, adding this finish destroys the environmental benefits of resin furniture.

Furniture can no longer be recycled easily because of the additional paint finish. Before painted plastic can be recycled, all of the paint has to be removed from each piece of plastic. And, some think the paint isn't as comfortable to sit in on a hot summer day.

Instead of spending unnecessary money on painting the chair, and worrying about unattractive drips and runs, it is much easier to simply recycle existing resin furniture. It's better for the environment to replace old resin furniture with the season's hottest colors.

Adams' high-quality resin furniture is protected from UV rays without being painted, and your color will stay true as long as you have the chair. It's the best deal for you and the environment!

Established in 1981, Adams Mfg. takes pride in providing high-quality, safe consumer products Made in the USA. In addition to casual furniture, Adams also manufactures Christmas decorating accessories, suction cups, and magnets. The company holds exclusive patents on many of its items.
"A well-crafted kitchen is a smart way for developers to make high-end projects truly exceptional, giving every resident the personalized, cutting-edge kitchen experience they crave."

The award winning Arclinea D4 kitchens feature sleek, exquisite materials and a floor plan that accommodates gourmet level cooking and comfortable entertaining. Crafted as an integral element of each unit's living space, the kitchens feature an open design placing major functions-including refrigerator, wall oven, microwave, and dishwasher-in ergonomic positions along a support wall. A multifunctional island bridges workspace and adjacent areas.

The kitchens incorporate warm teak finishes with a horizontal grain, creating an open, expansive feeling. White Cervaiole marble countertop complements each unit's bright, minimal palette. Abundant storage, ingeniously located in the island and wall units, eliminates clutter. Integrated drawer pulls maintain the kitchen's clean lines. Symmetry is emphasized, with the island perfectly centered against the kitchen's back wall, the sink placed precisely in the middle, and the wall oven and refrigerator placed evenly at either side. The island sink faucet, featuring a sculptural design, is a playful and elegant focal point.

A collaboration between Boston based design firm Urbanica and legendary designer Philippe Starck, D4 is a 26-unit contemporary condominium project built within the South End's former D4 police station. It features a green roof, glass-enclosed 'winter garden' courtyard, garage parking, and on-site concierge services.
PORTERSVILLE, Pa., April 21 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Adams Manufacturing Corp. asks, "Which colors are best?" For the big, comfortable resin chaise lounges, white is the best color. Dark colors absorb heat more quickly, and can be uncomfortable to use on sunny days. Anyone who's sat on a hot chaise lounge while wearing a bathing suit will insist that their chaise lounges be white and only white.

For the popular Adirondack resin chairs, all the colors work well. Many people like to coordinate their Adirondacks with the colors they've chosen for their homes and patios. While the darker colors do absorb heat, it's not the big issue it is with chaise lounges.

Any color is appropriate for the other stacking chairs. But, there is one very important consideration. Discerning buyers make sure they have the texture they like. Resin chairs come with two basic types of surface. The glossy finish is easier to keep clean. It can be wiped with a wet cloth, or simply hosed off.

Many prefer the softer, matte finish. That finish is slightly matted, and is not as shiny as the glossy finish. While it's easy to clean, a soapy rag may work better before rinsing it off with a hose or clean water.

There's a big advantage in resin furniture. It doesn't crack, and there's no paint or varnish to maintain. The color goes clear through the resin, so buyers know they won't have to be bothered sanding, filling, and painting every year or so. Anyone who's refinished or repainted a wooden chair knows how long that takes!

If you want to change the color of your resin furniture, your local retailer sells spray cans just for that purpose. In a few minutes, your comfortable resin furniture looks like new, and at a fraction of the cost.
Eclectic, Contemporary Design Show from California Chooses High Point Market to Launch First East Coast Show in October '08; Mills Village, a reclaimed Hosiery Mill Complex Turned New Home to Cisco Brothers' LEED Showroom, to be Host Venue

HIGH POINT, N.C. and SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 8 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The CA Boom Design Show, the west coast's leading design trade show and exhibition, announced today that it has chosen the fall 2008 High Point Market in North Carolina to launch its first-ever east coast show appropriately entitled, CA Boom EAST. The new show will be held at the latest showroom complex in High Point: The Mills Village, formerly the Highland Yard Hosiery Mill turned the most significant LEED project in North Carolina's state history, which also houses the premiere flagship showroom for Cisco Brothers. CA Boom East will open at the Fall '08 High Point Market October 20 through 26, 2008 in a new flexible showroom space at Mills Village located at 1014 Mills Avenue, High Point, NC.

After a thorough review of other North America design shows spanning the past several years, CA Boom Design Show creator and executive producer, Charles Trotter selected the High Point Market as the location for a new design show which will showcase strictly modern, non-traditional products that are authentically designed and manufactured in the designer's origin country. States Trotter, "The High Point Marketplace, continues to have the track record of consistently attracting the world's most important furniture buyers. We see the High Point Market as the center and the future of where real furniture is made and sold and we are very excited to be associated with such a prestigious event."

Brian D. Casey, president and chief executive of the High Point Market Authority comments, "The CA Boom Design Show represents the next generation of contemporary designers and manufacturers and we are thrilled to have CA Boom EAST involved with High Point Market. CA Boom will be complimentary to where High Point is already positioned with the high-end designer community. It is clear that CA Boom's selection of High Point for their new show location further validates our claim as the 'World's Home for Home Furnishings.'"

Over the past five years, Southern California has been home to the CA Boom Design Show which has become a must-attend west coast design event. While the west coast concept of CA Boom has gained international acclaim for promoting contemporary and non-traditional design and architecture - spanning furnishing to surfaces and finishes to doors and windows to prefab - CA Boom EAST will focus on new, independent contemporary furnishing designers and manufacturers that have yet to be discovered by top contemporary and transitional retailers.

CA Boom EAST will be held during the fall '08 High Point Market at the newly opened Mills Village Complex which is also home to the new showroom for Cisco Brothers, Los Angeles-based fine furniture, manufacturer and retailer. Mills Village, once considered an eyesore in the High Point community is now the most significant LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) project to be installed in the City's history and in all of the state of North Carolina. The show will be held in a flexible space on the second floor of Cisco Brothers' new flagship showroom. The 27-acre Mills Village complex itself is comprised of 280,000 sq. ft. of former mill buildings, surrounded by seven acres of natural wetlands and two acres of pitch pine and hardwood forest. The buildings feature reclaimed partitions, ramps, and staircases made 70% from metals and lumber reclaimed from the old structure and its surroundings.

Cisco Pinedo, founder of Cisco Brothers, states, "Having been an exhibitor at CA Boom, I saw firsthand how this show can benefit the design community on the west coast. In addition, the Cisco brand complements CA Boom's business values and we are excited to grow our relationship with the show on both coasts."

As an added value, CA Boom EAST will develop a definitive contemporary design guide to High Point and debut it at the fall 2008 Market. Designed specifically for non-traditional and contemporary retailers, the resource guide will pinpoint the hottest contemporary exhibitors at CA Boom EAST, as well as highlight all of the contemporary showrooms and events involved with High Point Market.

CA Boom EAST Launch at High Point Market
The first CA Boom Design Show took place in the design-savvy community of Santa Monica, California in August 2004. At the helm was Venice, California native Charles Trotter, who was looking to provide an independent, forward-thinking design show on the west coast that harnessed sophisticated event marketing expertise that was previously out of reach to all but the largest corporations and associations, and making it available to the independent, contemporary design community that was underserved and full of promising architects, furniture designers and product designers. To this day, the CA Boom Design Show stays true to its vision and Trotter is looking forward to bringing his show concept to High Point Market this fall.

-- SPECIAL NOTE TO THE MEDIA --
CA Boom Design Show creator and executive producer, Charles Trotter will be attending the spring '08 High Point Market from Sunday, April 6 through Wednesday, April 9. Trotter will be available for in-person interviews throughout Market at the new Cisco Brothers High Point showroom: Cisco at the Mills Village, 1014 Mills Avenue, High Point, NC. On display will be numerous pieces from past CA Boom exhibitors to offer a sampling of the contemporary designers that have participated at the show including: PIE, Bottega Montana, Dellarobia, Magis/Leif Peterson, Not Neutral, Clay & Wood, Areawear, Jonathan Ferrera Gallery, and Motoart. Please contact CA Boom Design Show publicist, Carl Larsen to schedule a meeting during the dates listed above at (310) 210-7018. You are also welcome to attend the Cisco Brothers' Showroom Grand Opening Party on Tuesday, April 8 at 6pm as both Charles Trotter and Cisco Pinedo will be in attendance.
PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 8 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Himalayan Salt Shop (www.himalayansaltshop.com) announced today that 2007 fourth quarter sales of its Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamps have doubled from the previous year. Coverage of these lamps in the November 2007 issue of Woman's World magazine and the December 2007 issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine helped fuel the increase in revenue. To continue spreading the word about their natural air-purifying salt lamps, the Himalayan Salt Shop will also be featured on an episode of the cable TV show "Living In Style" which airs this month. The episode of the show will focus on "green products" - products that are environmentally friendly and that promote well-being.

"We are trying to get the word out about these beautiful and natural products," said Ernesto Gaglione, President of the Himalayan Salt Shop, "with the continuing focus on holistic means for health improvement, our natural and unique products strike a chord with those looking to live healthier lives."

Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamps help purify the indoor air of the home via natural ionization. Many see the lamps as a favorable alternative to traditional air purifiers since the lamps are of a natural material, crystal salt, and they are also considered more visually appealing than mechanical air ionizers. These salt crystals, mined from the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Asia, are typically orange to reddish in color.

A candelabra-based incandescent bulb serves as the heating source causing the lamp to emit a colorful glow. The company's website can also be visited at www.saltpower.com where individuals can learn about the health benefits of Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamps by visiting the site's "Salt Lamp Information Center."

The company has also announced the growth of their wholesale unit, which presently supplies over sixty retailers across the country who have started carrying Himalayan Salt Shop products.

About The Himalayan Salt Shop:
The Himalayan Salt Shop was founded in 2005 and specializes in the education and marketing of Himalayan Salt Crystal products. Typical customers of the Himalayan Salt Shop include alternative and holistic medicine practitioners, retail store owners, and individuals who prefer natural and organic products. The Himalayan Salt Shop is headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey.

PORTERSVILLE, Pa., April 1 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Adams Manufacturing has discovered that many consumers want to know more about which resin chair is best for them. Basically, all stacking resin chairs come in three sizes. The smallest are called low-backs. They're the most economical. They're usually about 31 inches high at the back, and they weigh about five pounds. They're a good value. They last for years, and don't need to be painted, sanded, or maintained.

Mid-back chairs are a little larger. They're usually 34 inches tall at the back. Their arms and seats are a little wider. They are more comfortable, and offer more support than the low-back chairs.

High-backs are the largest of all stacking resin chairs. Big men prefer a chair that's between 36 and 38 inches high at the back. High-backs are also stronger in construction. Each one usually weighs 7 or 8 pounds, for better strength and reliability. High-back chairs are the most comfortable resin chairs tested, and certified to hold 250 pounds. The high-back's seating area and arm spacing is far more generous. Chairs like the Adams "Tropical Isle" are widely regarded as premier high-back chairs.

The stacking resin Adirondack chairs are neither low-back, mid-back, nor high-back. They're in a class by themselves, and offer one of the best values in lawn and patio furniture. They're large, strong, and very comfortable. Compared to wooden Adirondack chairs, they're a tenth of the cost, and, they don't need to be sanded and painted every year or so.

Regardless of which size and style of stacking resin furniture best fits a user's needs, all of Adams' resin chairs are 100% recyclable and 100% Made in the USA. More information: www.adamsmfg.com.
CARPINTERIA, Calif., Feb. 26 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Holland Scott Gallery today announces the debut of the Environmentally Responsible Green Energy Fine Art Lamps. These lamps combine energy-efficiency technology with fine-art design. Elegant photographic floral images and art-deco linoleum patterns from the 1930's are the result of energy efficient LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamp technology and the Giclee (zhee-clay) fine-art printmaking process.

The Giclee printmaking process uses permanent archival vegetable die inks on the cylindrical illuminated photographic image. Additional lamp designs are in production.

Omnidirectional, these LED lamps provide the correct color temperature of daylight for displaying naturally brilliant photographic colors. They also generate no heat and are free from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays that may cause fading over time. More importantly, LED lamps use 80 to 90 percent less energy than the incandescent lamps they replace.

Inventor and artist, Candy Hawthorne, along with her husband and art dealer, Scott, also a professional photographer and a true-digital art pioneer, are the brains behind the first Green Energy Fine Art Lamps. They have been creating art mediums with computers and technology since 1978.

Scott is a designer and creative evangelist; his contemporary photographic works are represented in each lamp he designs.

"The natural photographic beauty is complemented with the soft LED lighting; these new lamps look spectacular," Scott said. "The eco-friendliness of the new lamps is also very exciting."

The new long lasting LED lighting is provided by LEDtronics, one of the leading LED lighting design and manufacturing companies in the U.S.
Cambridge room praised for "classically styled yet high tech" design

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Jan. 8 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- A master bathroom designed and built by Charlie Allen Restorations for an 1853 Greek Revival home in Cambridge has been named "Bathroom of the Year" in Boston Globe Magazine's "Dream Home 2007" competition. The new bathroom was praised for its "imaginative use of space and light," and a "classically styled yet high tech" design.

The homeowners, a young, growing family, desperately needed the new space. Previously, the sole bathroom in their three-story home was on the ground floor, on the opposite side and one floor away from the master bedroom. Charlie Allen Restorations was tasked with introducing a master bath that would feature both modern amenities and a design that complemented the home's 19th-century charm.

Working with architect Tom Downer, the Charlie Allen Restorations team eliminated an existing bedroom and crafted a functional and inviting master bath and dressing space in its place. The highlight of the new master bathroom is a large, glassed-in shower that doubles as a steam room. Radiant floor heating and an electric towel warmer add to the room's appeal-particularly on cold winter mornings. Clerestory windows and frosted glass doors flood the bathroom with abundant natural lighting from adjacent floor-to-ceiling windows.

In the dressing area, large closets, wall cubbies, and custom-designed, furniture-quality armoires were introduced to improve storage for the family. Carefully selected, period-appropriate hardware, doors, base molding, and wide planked, white oak flooring were introduced throughout both areas.

In addition to Downer, other partners on the project include the demolition and disposal firm Mark One, Inc., HVAC specialists Keyes North Atlantic, Puccio Electric, Van Millwork, and the cleaning firm Surfaceworks.

"We're very proud to have this bathroom recognized by the Boston Globe Magazine," says Charlie Allen, founder of the award-winning firm. "It's a great validation of our belief that-with careful planning-new technologies and historic design and architecture can co-exist beautifully."

Charlie Allen Restorations is an award-winning contractor specializing in the seamless integration of modern amenities into period homes while retaining original period details. Charlie Allen Restorations combines expert tradespeople and established project management techniques to deliver exceptional customer satisfaction.
