MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Explorer's Guide Maritime Training announces a new course offering in the Milwaukee area - U.S. Coast Guard-approved Captain's Course. The course is designed to train people in a career area that is growing in a time of economic uncertainty.

The 56-hour course is scheduled to take place over two consecutive weekends: October 16-19 and October 23-26. It is designed to accommodate those who require education, but have difficulty fitting it into their busy schedules or who cannot take time away from work.

The course is being offered in a central location, the Best Western Milwaukee Airport Hotel and Conference Center on Howell Ave. Register by calling 800-487-6029 or online at www.explorersguidellc.com.

Explorer's Guide Maritime Training educates students on how to successfully obtain a Captain's License, through a beneficial program tailored to adult students. "As educators, we use established techniques proven for success in adult education. We use the discuss, demonstrate, and do method to maximize the learning experience for all types of learning abilities," Capt. Gary Kulibert lead instructor for Explorer's Guide Maritime Training, states. "A course's worth is determined by what students learned from it. Our students can attest to this course's great value."

One former student, Capt. Jim, says, "Many of my friends have taken the same course with a different organization; compared to them I really learned the material. There is no comparison to the quality of what I received to what they received."

In partnership with North Central Technical College, all of Explorer's Guide Maritime Training courses are accredited, which makes tuition reimbursement, tuition assistance, and college and continuing education credits possible. The course has also been approved for veteran's benefits and is an affiliate of the Department of Defense DANTES program that provides reimbursement for military personnel.

Kulibert explains that he founded Explorer's Guide Maritime Training because his own experience as a maritime student left him frustrated and exhausted. "Being a maritime expert doesn't make you a good teacher of maritime principles," Kulibert notes. "Anyone can go through the USCG rules and regulations and come up with a laundry list of things they need to memorize to pass a test. Explorer's Guide Maritime Training focuses on teaching the way people learn, so they enjoy the classes, retain more, and come out the other end as true Captains, not just boaters who passed a test."

Kulibert has worked closely with the USCG to develop the curriculum for the OUPV course, which has been approved by the Coast Guard's National Maritime Center. Graduates of the OUPV course earn the title of "Captain."

Explorer's Guides Maritime Training courses are approved through the National Maritime Center, USCG. Their students take the exam at the end of the course, instead of making a trip to one of the Regional Exam Centers. Students who fail an exam can retake that exam the same day. From enrollment, to license application package assistance, they provide all the help required to succeed.

Explorer's Guide Maritime Training offers a wealth of programs designed to educate mariners on the latest information in the maritime field, along with the tried and true techniques. The Wisconsin-based company was the first training facility in the nation to be approved to offer online courses by the United States Coast Guard.

APPLETON, Wis., May 28 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- According to a preservation group called PreserveCW, the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee, unless convinced otherwise, may sell an ecologically diverse camp property in Waushara County to commercial developers. Consideration of a sale has begun just five months after ceasing operation of Camp Webb at the Wautoma, Wisconsin property. Camp Webb had been a religiously-based camping program there since 1961. The camp property of 135 acres contains a diverse mixture of deciduous woods, pine woods, beachfront, swampland, grasslands and prairie fields.

The diocese's Executive Council discussed the possibility of sale in early May after receiving a report from diocesan officials who had met with a commercial developer to discuss potential development of condominiums. A formal vote to put the camp up for sale is the first agenda item for June 5th Executive Council meeting. After learning of the situation, PreserveCW, a group formed to preserve the camp, asked supporters to contact Bishop Steven Miller and Executive Council members to ask that they seriously consider non-commercial options for the camp before considering sale to commercial interests.

"We don't question any right of the Diocese to sell the camp" stated Matthew Payne, Chair of the PreserveCW Steering Committee and former Camp Webb board member, staff member and camper. "Our concern is the Diocese's fiduciary duty, especially as a church and not-for-profit corporation in the State of Wisconsin. To consider sale to commercial interests before giving due consideration to non-commercial options is both irresponsible and careless and may have possible legal ramifications. Until and unless the Diocese of Milwaukee has exhausted all avenues of non-commercial options, it should not consider sale of the camp to any commercial interest."

Steering Committee member Connie Ott who has been connected to the camp since 1966 is also a current member of the Executive Council. She noted that, "This ecologically sensitive land should be preserved for generations to come. Any hope for preservation would be destroyed by a sale to any commercial interest."

PreserveCW was also recently informed that a proposal it made to lease the property to resume camp operations was rejected categorically by the Diocese. In a letter dated May 14th, the Diocese provided the reason that it did not consider it in their best interest to lease to "any other group or organization."

SPOONER, Wis., April 21 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- With the sparring behind the scenes rivaling the boxing superstars in the ring, Native Voices Foundation's (NVF) "Future Olympian's Day Benefit in Spooner April 16, turned out an uplifting landmark for American Indian youth competing in the London Olympics," according to Olympic skier, Suzy "Chapstick" Chaffee, NVF's organizer.

World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Joe Hipp (Blackfeet), 2003 Native American Heavyweight Champion Harry Funmaker ("Ho-Chunk Hammer"), and South Dakota Golden Gloves director, Chissie Spencer (Seminole), wowed the region's rising stars with priceless coaching, and fans with exciting sparring at the Northwest Sports Complex.

"I'm thrilled how the benefit united Indian Country's leading casinos behind developing youth for Vancouver's 2010 and London's 2012 Olympics," said Barry ZeVan, beloved Minneapolis weatherman and original PR Director for Grand Casino Mille Lacs. Chaffee honored ZeVan there for raising her tribal consciousness 15 years ago, and producing "American Indian Homelands," an award-winning eye-opener.

gaiashkibos (Lac Courte Oreilles), National Congress of American Indians Secretary, joined Chaffee in welcoming and cheering on Future Olympians in boxing, skiing and archery... "I am committed to helping give Indian youth their Olympic Dreams," he said.

"gaiashkibos could have been an Olympic basketball contender if his community could have afforded to give him a hand," said Suzy. "Now together we can," he said. For standing up for Indian youth, Nancy Cooper (Ojibwe), the coordinator, honored him with a buffalo robe.

"Whenever our people can get Olympic quality coaching and conditioning, they win championships," said Stonehorse Goeman, Seneca Marshal Arts Champion and conditioning-coach for Indian Olympic Boxing talent at Foxwood's Casino.

"America Indians invented the roots of 10 Olympic sports (http://nativevoices.org/articles/tribal_gifts.htm), and partnered with Ski Utah to end their pre-Olympic drought (snow-riders.org/mir.html). As MVP's, it's high time they're included in humanity's Greatest Celebration on Earth," said Chaffee.

"Only one Native American woman, Naomi Lange (Karuk ice-dancer), has competed in the Modern Olympics," said Cooper, whom Suzy called a "Heavyweight Champion for youth."

Sponsors included: The Landing, St Croix Trails Dancers & Travel, White Birch Printing, NuStevia-sweetener, Send2Press.com, and Northwest Indian NewsTV. Joined with Native Report (PBS), youth in 15 states plus Canada can get Spooner's skiing and boxing coaching and stay "clean and lean."
SPOONER, Wis., April 11 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Native Voices Foundation (NVF) is hosting a "Future Olympian's Day" Benefit in Spooner, Wisconsin, on April 16, at their Northwest Sports Complex. "Thanks to Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World, Joe Hip (Blackfeet), and 2003 Native American Heavyweight Champion, Harry Funmaker ('Ho-Chunk Hammer') coaching the region's rising stars, this may be a launching pad for Indian youth finally getting coaching to compete in future Olympic," according to Olympic skier, Suzy "Chapstick" Chaffee, NVF's organizer.

"While our benefit suffered a setback when Evander Holyfield had to bow out, it is uniting Indian Country's heavyweights behind helping their youth grab their Olympic dreams," said Chaffee.

"We're impressed with the Olympic Hopefuls that NVF helped develop (www.snow-riders.org) and together we'll be meeting with other like-minded Casinos, like the Mohegan Sun and Senecas, to formulate a 4 year plan for pro teams and Olympians to assist in training youth for the London Olympics," said Stonehorse Goeman. The Seneca Marshal Arts Champion, mentored by Tom Coulter, Olympic coaching legend, is conditioning coach for Native American Olympic Boxing talent at Foxwood's Casino.

From 1-4 p.m., the Native American Boxing Superstars will clinic top regional boxers from Team Amos, Red Lake, Mo Lake, plus Lakotas. The public is welcome to observe, or attend a talk by Chissie Spencer, top boxing promoter, who'll share how to steer clear of pitfalls to being a champion of sports and life. Chaffee will also be planting more Olympic ski dreams at her clinic.

At 7 p.m., Native American Olympic Ski Hopeful, Mariah Cooper (Lac Courte-Oreille-Oneida) will open the event with a prayer-signing. Gosh Kibos, Secretary of the National Congress of American Indians, and Suzy will then welcome everyone.

Hip and Funmaker will perform exciting sparring and share how they overcame obstacles. But the stars of the evening are the youth demonstrating their sparring and technique to reveal Olympic Boxing potential. Talent going to the North American Indigenous Games in Vancouver in August will be honored, including by Mark Soulier's St. Croix Trails Dancers. $10 tickets can be purchased at the door.

Sponsors include: The Landing, St Croix Travel, White Birch Printing, Northwest Indian NewsTV, NuStevia.

NVF is a Colorado 501(c)3 non profit partnership developing Native American talent for Olympic Teams.

WAUWATOSA, Wis., April 9 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- A day that recognizes the beauty of bulldogs, despite their droopy looks, will challenge people as it conveys a message of acceptance, when bulldogs and their owners celebrate the second annual National Bulldogs Are Beautiful Day on Saturday, April 26, 2008 (bulldogsarebeautiful.com). "I hope that with the help of these sweet bulldogs, people will take note of how they treat others they deem unattractive," said Jackie Valent, author of the children's book, "Stinky the Bulldog" (ISBN 1420826972).

The Milwaukee and national signature event, which will take place at Central Bark; 5780 W. Hemlock; Milwaukee, Wis., 53223 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m., is expected to attract about 50 bulldogs and their owners.

The event will feature snacks and mingling for pups and people, but different this year is a showcasing of regional agencies doing great work around diversity and acceptance issues. Even though bulldogs' saggy skin makes them look to have perpetual frowns and their stout bodies connote sluggishness, bulldogs are affectionate animals that enjoy attention from humans, according to bulldog owner and the holiday's host, author Jackie Valent of Wauwatosa, who is also a human resources executive at Deloitte, LLP.

"I hope that 'National Bulldogs are Beautiful Day' teaches us to embrace differences in people; if people see beyond the looks and aggressive ancestry of a bulldog, they can certainly look within and challenge themselves to accept their neighbors of a different race, gender, appearance, lifestyle, physical ability, national origin or religion.

"In today's global community, we are valuable as a cohesive civilization rather than as segmented populations." Valent knows that changing people's prejudices is a large order, but with her success as a human resources specialist who works passionately with diversity issues, and each time someone hides their face in shame after hearing that Stinky is her bulldog's name of affection, not cruelty, she believes that it can be done.

Host your own National Bulldogs are Beautiful Day celebration and show people that there is beauty in all beings!

The story of Stinky the Bulldog
A loveable bulldog in a new neighborhood, Stinky is eager to make friends, but is quickly disappointed when kids crinkle their noses and run away; they don't even know him! Packed with vibrant illustrations, "Stinky the Bulldog" (ISBN-13: 978-1420826975, AuthorHouse) is a touching story that teaches the value of people's differences, and the wonders of true friendship.

"If we cherish our differences and learn to cooperate and reason with one another, our world will be a more profitable and peaceful place," Valent said. "It's a grande effort, but one that we can learn from our bulldog partners."
