LOS ANGELES, Calif., June 30 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- As global warming causes mega-fires to become the norm, as firefighting budgets are slashed, firefighting aircraft are grounded due to thick smoke, and firefighters are overwhelmed by the sheer number and size of wildfires, people are asking: Can technology be harnessed to produce a firefighting force capable of taking on such destructive phenomena before our forests are reduced to ash? Before thousands lose their homes? Before more lives are lost to rampant wildfires? A book from Firebomber Publications may provide the answer.

Firebombers Incorporated: The firefighting force for the 21st century! Melding together proven firefighting techniques with the latest in electronics, computers, and space-age materials, an elite, hard-hitting force is created, one which can see through smoke and dark of night as though it's a clear day, able to rapidly deploy all their firefighters and equipment to a fire zone by air, networking every unit through futuristic command-and-control vehicles.

Firebombers Incorporated offers an intriguing "what if?" scenario: Could such an outfit help the wildland firefighting forces that are currently stretched to the breaking point win their battles faster, save more lives, and substantially reduce suppression costs, not to mention property and financial losses?

Dedicated to those who risk their lives to save the lives of others, Firebombers Incorporated is a must read for anyone concerned about the increasing threat of mega-fires and interested in seeing what could be done to stop them dead in their tracks!

GRANITE BAY, Calif., April 4 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Prepare Stay Defend (PSD), a California non-profit organization, has launched a web site that empowers homeowners against wildfires; they are the first organization of its kind to support homeowners, nationwide, through their educational web site and on-line fire training.

Have you ever seen ill-prepared homeowners standing on rooftops dressed in shorts and t-shirts while spraying water with a trickling garden hose? These are images that the PSD training program hopes to eliminate.

Founders Steve Bowman and Roy Pike have over 70 years of combined expertise in pre-fire mitigation and actual wildfire suppression; their goal is to share this information with the public.

"I'm tired of seeing hundreds of homes burning with limited protection, and I'm tired of seeing homeowners staying behind to defend their home without training or protective clothing," Bowman said. "It's time to empower the homeowner with knowledge of fire dynamics and the training they deserve and desire."

PSD reduces the chance of injury and/or death and promises to significantly increase a home's survival if the homeowner stays to defend it.

Many factors are involved in defending a home from fire. They include physical and psychological preparedness and learning how to create defensible space and properly prepare the home and homeowner.

"The idea of Prepare Stay and Defend methodology is not new," Pike explains. "In 2006, Aussies successfully implemented this method and many homeowners in the U.S. have been pressing for this type of program."

The main emphasis of the web site, which offers the same Federal courses administered to professional wildland firefighters, prepares homeowners to defend their homes and neighborhoods while allowing for reasonably safe "staying and defending" activities.

PSD recommends that homeowners evacuate to a safety zone early in the process if they are not able to expend a high level of physical exertion or are not psychologically prepared for the stresses of firefighting.

Homeowners will be encouraged to organize Neighborhood Fire Watch Groups and Fire Brigades. PSD consultants will be available to help homeowners with fire law and regulation interpretations, assessing the wildfire suppression capabilities of their local fire department, surveying neighborhood and community infrastructures, help establish and demonstrate new "home hardening" specifications for developers and other strategic wildfire protection planning issues.

Bowman explains that since 1990, in California alone, there have been over 15,000 structures lost in wildfire. Most homes are lost due to burning embers falling onto and around the home causing spot fires.

"The number of destroyed homes during a wildfire is related to the lack of firefighting resources and most residents are killed during the evacuation process," Bowman added. "Using the home as a shelter, when trapped by the wildfire, has long been recognized by professional firefighters and is reflected in their wildfire training."

PSD believes that the homeowner should also be trained on how to use their prepared home as a shelter.

Similar to the militia during the American Civil War, properly trained and equipped homeowner fire brigades can be valuable resources to U.S. fire services during wildfire sieges.

This new web site provides practical information to help homeowners and communities prepare for a wildfire and to establish local safety refuges. It teaches homeowners how to conduct pre-fire planning; plan evacuation routes; promote the use of protective clothing and fire suppression equipment, and more.

To effectively work with local fire agencies, PSD is ready to establish better communication between local fire departments and homeowners by acting as an advocate and a clearing house for the homeowners. Pike explains that the fire service must recognize that they cannot solve the wildfire interface problem alone.

"Maintaining the status quo will only lead to more lost homes, residents and firefighters," Pike said. "Fire services must be willing to change their wildfire interface tactics and strategies to meet the actual conditions on the ground."

Homes will continue to be built in wildland areas. People will continue to cause fires in these areas, either accidentally or with malice aforethought, and the public outcry for mitigating the damage will only grow louder; PSD can help to change this destructive cycle.
SAN DIEGO, Calif., April 3 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Finally, there's a new way to enjoy a night on the town in your own car and never worry about getting a DUI. Those with a lot to lose from a DUI arrest call it their "career insurance." Safe Ride Solutions (SRS) is a national network of off-duty and retired, veteran police officers. It's a new, unique, collaborative DUI prevention program developed by peace officers, professional athletes and business professionals to address the real world problem of DUI.

The nationwide, innovative service is the only one of its kind serving major U.S. cities and is widely used by the NFL, including the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers. In California, SRS currently serves Los Angeles, San Diego and the Bay Area; expanding soon to San Jose and Orange County.

Most drinkers don't call a cab because they want their cars with them the next day. SRS drivers expertly and quietly prevent drunk driving (DUI - Driving Under the Influence of alcohol) 24/7 by picking up and safely driving clients home in their own cars. You have your car the next morning...guaranteed!

All officers sign a Confidentiality Agreement, are dependable, discreet and trained to handle challenging situations. They know their city, can avoid problems and have years of experience protecting people, including providing emergency care. SRS is for those who realize it is catastrophic insurance at a bargain price.

Who do you want taking care of you when you've had too much to drink? ...a cab driver? No, you want someone you can truly trust when you're vulnerable. No one's better than a fully trained, experienced peace officer.

DUI attorneys in California are already beginning to recommend Safe Ride Solutions to their clients as a way to help prevent further situations that may involve their DUI arrest...or worse. They also know informing the court their clients will sign up for membership in SRS may help their clients' DUI defense cases significantly.

The drunk driving statistics: 13,470 deaths in 2006 in accidents involving drinking and driving (BAC of .08 or higher); approximately 32% of all traffic fatalities for 2006.

Safe Ride Solutions is the answer to the oft asked question, "It is one in the morning. I drove my friends to the bar, I am drunk, my friends are drunk, and I don't want to leave my car here overnight. How do I get us and my car home because I have to get to work in the morning?"

Steganography SearchPak(R) for Triage Tools Now Available

FAIRMONT, W.V. - Feb. 1 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Backbone Security, the industry leader in advanced digital steganalysis tools, is pleased to announce their partnership with ADF Solutions to provide a steganography SearchPak(R) for use with ADF's revolutionary digital forensic triage tools. These tools are currently deployed at law enforcement agencies, government organizations, and commercial corporations worldwide.

ADF created the steganography SearchPak(R) from hash values extracted from the Steganography Application Fingerprint Database (SAFDB) created and maintained in Backbone's Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC). SAFDB is the world's largest commercially available hash set exclusive to steganography applications. Digital forensic examiners around the world are using hash values from SAFDB to detect the presence of steganography applications on seized media.

First responders and lab examiners can use the SearchPak(R) with Triage-ID(TM) and Triage-Lab(TM) to quickly detect the file artifacts of 675 steganography applications.

Detecting the presence of steganography applications is a strong indication the application may have been used to conceal digital evidence by hiding the evidence in other files that may still exist on the media. When steganography is detected, users have the option of contacting Backbone for further assistance with finding and extracting the hidden evidence using advanced steganalysis tools developed in the SARC.

Triage-ID(TM) is a field tool for first responders to perform automated on-site analysis of suspect computers, with a bootable CD-ROM & USB drive. Triage-Lab(TM) is a Windows based tool that performs automated analysis of drive images, network drives, stand alone suspect computers, DVD's, CD's, and other digital media.

Contact ADF Solutions at info@adfsolutions.com or the SARC at sarc@backbonesecurity.com for information about obtaining the steganography SearchPak(R).

About ADF Solutions
ADF Solutions, Inc. is the leading provider of digital forensic triage tools and methodologies to equip investigators and first responders for the new challenges they face everyday when encountering digital equipment during the course of their investigations.
Imagine the Ability to View Anything That Ever Appeared on Almost any Computer

GREENWICH, Conn. - Jan. 14 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- For some companies, it is not a question of if one of their computers will be used as evidence in a legal matter, it is a question of when. The inaugural Computer Forensics Show will fill the Washington Convention Center from February 4-6, 2008 (in Washington, D.C.). This year's event features keynote addresses by high-powered Washington insiders such as Barry M. Sabin, Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Chief Counter-Terrorism Section, U.S. Department of Justice and James Christy, Director of Futures Exploration, Department of Justice Defense Cybercrime Center.

Other notable beltway speakers highlighting the proposed annual event include David Heil, Special Agent In Charge Of Computer Crime for the United States Department Of Commerce; Dr. James Lyle and Doug White from the Computer Security Division from the DoC's National Institute of Standards and Technology and Kevin Reis, Special Agent with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's OIG Electronic Crimes Unit.

By most estimates, 90% of legal evidence resides in computer systems, rather than on paper. Cases involving corporate trade secrets, personal and commercial disputes, employee discrimination, misdemeanor and felony crimes and personal injury can be won or lost solely with the introduction of recovered e-mail messages and other electronic files and records.

Today's business environment continues to become more and more complex-with strict regulatory and compliance requirements, increased scrutiny and the ever-present threat of litigation. Because the majority of information today is created and available only in an electronic format, electronic data and the ability to properly address it in a defensible manner are increasingly critical to the legal process. These services are vital to any individual, company, or law practice with cases that deal with sensitive information stored on digital media.

The Computer Forensics Show will focus in-depth on topics of interest to legal and risk management professionals, the accounting industry and the IT sector, and features five powerful conference tracks including Legal, Accounting, Advanced IT Security and an exciting Lab track with a scheduled two-day complete Mock Trial.
The first place winner, Leah Mainiero of Connecticut, received a $10,000 scholarship, while second place winner Harrison Turner from Pennsylvania and third place winner, Megan Crawley of New Jersey were awarded $7,500 and $2,500 respectively. The $20,000 total is double the amount of previous awards.

The scoring for the youth scholarship program is based on academic achievement, test scores, community activity and an essay titled, "What it means to ME to have my parent or guardian involved in securing our community." Since the NBFAA Youth Scholarship Program was created in 1996, the association and its affiliated chartered chapters have donated more than $250,000 in scholarship funds to students whose parents are police and fire officials.

Mainiero, a senior at Pomperaug Regional High School in Southbury, Conn., was "ecstatic" when she got the call. "I was so excited. When I hung up the phone, I jumped up and down and screamed with my mom," Mainiero said. The future International Relations major at John Hopkins University said that she's always been interested in culture and politics because of her father's job as a Waterbury, Conn. police sergeant.

"My father's service in the community has had a profound and lasting impact on me personally. Not only do I respect, appreciate and admire my father's work, but through it I have developed a greater understanding of the world around me...Most people work in pursuit of their own personal version of the American dream; my father works to protect their freedom to do so," wrote Mainiero in her essay.

A senior at North Allegheny High School in Wexford, Pa., an Eagle Scout and a National Merit Finalist, the second place winner also wrote about the pride he feels about his father's role as a volunteer firefighter for the Bradford Woods Volunteer Fire Company.

"I cannot help but ask myself what compels a man with a good life, and a fairly comfortable one, to potentially risk his life and expect nothing in return," he wrote. "My dad wants to help others, and he knows that if our house was burning, we would need volunteer firefighters."

Like Mainiero, Turner was excited about winning the award. "This money is going to be a great help," he explained. His future plans include studying mathematics at Carnegie Mellon.

Crawley, the third place winner from Sea Girt, N.J. Point Pleasant Beach High School plans to attend Bucknell University to study bio-chemistry and hopes to one day work in genetic research. In her essay, Crawley wrote about her dad's life as a volunteer firefighter with the Sea Girt Fire Company.

"I used to imagine the glitz and glamour of the Hollywood version of a firefighter, sliding down fire poles, climbing into a bright red fire truck, and petting the Dalmatian mascot on his way. I understand now the danger and sacrifice that being a firefighter entails and the courage it takes to run into a burning building that everyone else is running out of," she wrote.

NBFAA chapters in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New Jersey have participated for several years in the Youth Scholarship Program. The program was designed to assist students in seeking a degree, and to give NBFAA state chapters a way to interact with, and express support for, the public service partners - police and firefighters - who work daily to protect the lives and property of citizens.

IRVING, Texas - Oct. 23 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Apprenticeship (OA) has approved NBFAA's National Guidelines for Apprenticeship Standards for the occupation of Protective Signal Installer (Fire/Life Safety & Electronic Security Installer).

"Everyone in our industry understands the need to expand the labor pool, to attract the very best technicians, and to provide a mechanism to introduce and train on new products, technologies and applications. We now have that in our Fire/Life Safety and Electronic Security Apprenticeship Program," said NBFAA President George P. Gunning. "This program will provide a foundation of knowledge that allows technicians to advance in their profession and improve the ability of the industry to recruit, train and retain the very best technicians from a competitive labor pool."

Gunning added, "This accomplishment is represented by a simple certificate indicating the approval of our program, but thousands of people and hundreds of companies have worked for years to make this happen. I believe we have established a new foundation for growth and expansion of our industry and the NBFAA."

The National Guidelines for Apprenticeship Standards developed by NBFAA were certified by the OA Administrator on Sept. 20, 2006. According to the Labor Department, these standards will now serve as a model for developing local apprenticeship programs registered with the OA or State Apprenticeship Agency/Council for all occupations listed in the guidelines. The purpose of the National Guideline Standards is to provide policy and guidance to employers, employer associations and their local affiliates in developing Standards of Apprenticeship for local approval and registration.

NBFAA's apprenticeship program has its roots in a program developed in California. Beginning in 2000 - when a state law mandated that technicians be enrolled in a state-approved apprenticeship program - the California Alarm Association and the California Automatic Fire Alarm Association joined forces to develop a comprehensive and relevant training and education program.

The California program offers traditional classroom training, but the goal from the beginning was to make the related theoretical training available online with a comprehensive distance learning program.

"Now that NBFAA has taken the next step by establishing a federally approved apprenticeship program, our goal will be to work through our National Training School (NTS) and our state chapters to create the administrative and delivery systems to make apprenticeship accessible to technicians in every state. The fundamental components, including curriculum, work experience processes, and defining the responsibilities of the employer, apprentice and program sponsor are already in place," said Gunning.

According to NBFAA, the key to the national apprenticeship program's success will be in direct proportion to the support and participation of the companies who make up the industry. Each NBFAA Chartered State Association will have the option to serve as the program sponsor, and the state programs may also be sponsored by a group of companies who organize to offer the apprenticeship program.

NEW YORK, NY - Aug. 21 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- September 11, 2006 marks the five-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon; Police psychotherapist, Peter Killeen, Director of "The Police Connection," continues to provide support through counseling and working with the Port Authority police unions.

"The upcoming five-year anniversary of the September 11th attacks is a time for people to reflect on where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going," said Killeen, also a former police officer and Franciscan Friar.

The Police Connection is a 501(c)(3)not-for-profit entity, whose mission is to provide a variety of services for police officers, first responders and their families.

"Many of these individuals suffer from the delayed onset of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a debilitating condition, and will be in need of assistance for years to come," Killeen said. "Psychological and physical issues continue to impact these individuals daily."

As a result of this ongoing need for support, Killeen created the "September 11 Support Fund."

Port Authority police officers will reunite with colleagues who they worked with during the rescue-recovery clean up. Reunions will take place over a two-day period and will be hosted, bi-annually, in a hotel setting. The gatherings will be informal and educative. The purpose is to offer emotional support to people who continue to struggle with the trauma of September 11.

Killeen holds two Master Degrees: Counseling Psychology and Theology, and is a nationally recognized, stress-management therapist, and a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. When September 11 happened, Killeen played an active counseling role, and worked directly with the Port Authority police force who suffered a loss of 37 officers.

Killeen's eclectic background in healthcare, theology and law enforcement makes him a much sought after talk show host. As host and producer of "The Police Connection Radio Show" and author of the political serial thriller "The Infidel Factor", he has been interviewed on many radio and television programs, including Court TV's "Crier Today," LETN (Law Enforcement Television Network), CNBC-TV, WOR Radio 710AM and NPR.

Killeen currently serves as a consultant with police unions and federal agencies as a stress specialist.
