MARSHALL, N.C., Feb. 26 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Whisper Mountain, located outside of the city of Asheville in the heart of western North Carolina, is a community where conservation and preservation meet. That's why Southern Living has chosen this community as the location for their first 2008 green Idea House.

Visitors may tour the eco-friendly house from late June 28 through October 12 when it will be placed on the North Carolina real estate market. It will be a fully furnished, three bedroom, four bathroom "farmhouse," LEED-certified, with a separate "barn" that houses a two-car garage and guest suite on the first and second levels, complete with living, dining, kitchen, bedroom, full bath, and a third floor sleeping loft.

The 2008 Southern Living Idea House is an eco-friendly home that will prove to be a coveted piece of North Carolina mountain real estate. The plan is designed in a traditional farm house style, updated for today's lifestyle with two main levels, the master bedroom on the first floor, two bedrooms with full baths on the second floor, and a third floor loft. In addition to the living, dining, kitchen and screen porch on the first floor, the study has a full bath which could be used as an additional bedroom.

The home's green technology systems are housed on the ground floor and will be open for interpretive tours; visitors will learn about what goes into building a green home.

"We are pleased to report that this Southern Living Idea House will offer visitors the very latest in sustainable green living ideas inside and out," Charlie Ball, owner and developer of Whisper Mountain said.

The home is being built by Asheville's premier green builder, EcoBuilders. Some of the home's eco-friendly features include solar paneling, radiant-heated floors, and a gray water system.

During construction, the building site and surrounding land was disturbed as little as possible with on-site recycling. The house was constructed with non-toxic materials and extensive use of locally- produced building materials.

An energy recovery ventilator will draw in fresh, filtered air and remove humidity; extensive flashing will ensure no water intrusion. The roof will be fabricated from recycled metal and bluewood-coated lumber.

"Through harvesting reusable resources, implementing cutting-edge, green-building techniques, and maintaining large wooded areas, we have succeeded in developing a community where conservation and preservation meet," Ball explained. "And, we are so excited that Southern Living has provided us with this wonderful opportunity to showcase their eco-friendly 2008 Idea House.

In addition to eco-friendly amenities, the private Whisper Mountain community also offers parks and greenbelts, hiking trails, and an owner's lodge reconstructed from 1800's, timber-frame structure.

The design team for the Idea House is from Asheville -- Bill Allison of Allison Ramsey Architects; and interior designer, Traci Kearns of Alchemy Design Studio.
Dr. David Gerber to Lead Innovative Product Development Efforts

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CADFORCE, the Los Angeles-based global leader in outsourced architectural services, today announced the hiring of David Gerber, Ph.D., as Vice President of Innovation. "In Dr. Gerber, we have found a rare combination of architectural and technology expertise that makes us the clear innovation leader in Revit," said Bob Vanech, Chief Executive Officer of CADFORCE.

"Dr. Gerber has found ways to help our clients by creatively applying BIM to address design, sustainability, and business issues in the AEC industry."

Dr. Gerber is a specialist in architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) technology. His expertise includes associative parametric modeling and using Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create better design and more efficient, cost-effective work processes - which can include implementing LEED and other green building criteria using BIM.

"CADFORCE's innovative business model, along with its aggressive BIM initiatives, caught my interest," said Dr. Gerber. "I'm looking forward to leading our clients through the transition from CAD to BIM - and helping them implement new service offerings that incorporate cutting-edge AEC technologies."

Dr. Gerber earned his Doctorate from Harvard University and has worked for the highly-regarded, internationally-known architecture firms of Gehry Technologies in Los Angeles, Zaha Hadid Architects in London, and Moshe Safdie and Associates in Boston. He has also written extensively on BIM and parametric modeling, authoring Explicit to Parametric Iterations, published in English and French. Dr. Gerber is a professor at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI Arc), and lectures and teaches internationally.

Applying his expertise in AEC technologies and experience in architecture, planning and engineering, Dr. Gerber has begun to create innovative products ranging from BIM-enabled green building design and simulation to 3D project description and delivery. He is also crafting forward-looking collaboration technologies and processes that incorporate additional dimensions, such as "4D" time and sequencing, and "5D" costing. Finally, he has coined the term "6D," which refers to calculations of carbon output made possible through BIM-based AEC applications.

"Dr. Gerber is not just a top-notch architect - he's also a visionary," said Vanech. "His expertise in using BIM to create better structures includes developing innovations that can lead to a reduction in greenhouse emissions. Clearly, he is already using his knowledge to improve peoples' lives."

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Feb. 1 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- TMS Architects are proud to announce that the firm was a recent recipient of a prestigious People's Choice Award presented by the NH Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in association with its annual awards program. The award was presented for a private residence designed by TMS principal William Soupcoff located in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Noted for its luxurious design, complex architecture and stunning features, this breathtaking residence is substantial in size and scale (23,500 square feet) as befitting its 62 acre site on the shoreline of Lake Winnipesaukee.

Designed to blend in with its surroundings, the exterior colors were chosen to fit in with the earth tones of the site's natural hues and the end result is that when looking at the site from the lake, one can only catch glimpses of the house nestled among the trees.

A soaring circular 4-story tower is one of the more distinctive design features of the home and another 2-story tower, which houses a custom 10-person hot tub, is constructed on the rear of the residence. Both towers capture lake views as do nearly all of the home's 188 windows. The site also boasts a 3-bay boat house with a mahogany interior.
New subsidiary of Artist Rendering, Inc. puts 3D technology to pioneering use for broad spectrum of industries, not just for engineers and architects anymore

DENVER, Colo. - Dec. 5 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Denver-based IDEAVIZ, a subsidiary of Artist Rendering, Inc., is making an impact for a diverse range of businesses by using innovative 3D visualization and animation technology to bring new ideas to fruition.

Since 2002, Artist Rendering, Inc. has worked with real-estate developers and architects in visualizing their future projects through high-impact 3D renderings and animations. In the course of his work there, founder and president Alex Tiller discovered that there was a need for his company's services across a broader spectrum. "Professionals from all sorts of industries kept coming to us and saying, 'We like what you're doing; can you apply it to our industry?'," says Tiller.

Tiller rose to the challenge by creating IDEAVIZ as a subsidiary of Artist Rendering, Inc-expanding the market for his company's technologies. A remarkable variety of local and national companies have taken advantage of the firm's creative services-including furniture manufactures, pet-product designers, and event producers. The common thread across all these industries is their need to quickly and inexpensively explore and test new concepts, innovations and business solutions. IDEAVIZ uses virtual reality to do just that.

Using 3D visualization technology, says Tiller, "is powerful because we're not limited by the bounds of physics. By building an object in virtual space, we can see how it will work inside and out before it's produced in the real world." This allows IDEAVIZ to "experiment with any idea without the expense and time required by actually building it." This experimentation gives businesses the flexibility to make changes and explore multiple possibilities for any product concept or business process prior to implementation.

IDEAVIZ uses 3D technology to help companies look at their businesses in a new way. When creating a new product or concept, businesses face the challenge of getting their idea across to clients quickly and clearly. "It's hard to tell what something's really going to look like and how it will work just by looking at technical drawings," says Tiller. "We can create a photo-real 3D visualization that lets people actually see their ideas brought to life before they even exist in the physical world." This not only removes doubt for investors, but also allows companies to mitigate the risk of innovation by testing ideas in focus groups before investing.

IDEAVIZ plans to continue finding new applications for the powerful technology and stellar creative talent it houses. The way Tiller sees it, "the capabilities of our blend of creative, technological and managerial talent could assist in a huge array of markets. We want to keep finding new ways to help businesses innovate through visualization."

For more information on IDEAVIZ's mission and work, the media and the public may contact Kim Vincent or Alex Tiller at 303-830-1640 or visit www.IDEAVIZ.com.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Nov. 28 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Altamont Homes, Inc., located in Martinez, Calif., is filling a void in the California construction market - custom modular homes - and is excited to announce that they will be teaming up with award-winning architect, Douglas Cutler, AIA.

The "Cutler Series" provides 25 exquisite modular-homes choices. Cutler is based in Wilton, Ct. and is excited to be able to team up with Altamont Homes and to introduce his award-winning designs to the west coast.

"Cutler is one of the finest and best-known architects in the field," Eric Peterson, president, said. "And, in the modular home industry he truly stands alone."

Cutler has often been recognized by the media for his outstanding work in this field. On six separate occasions, he has appeared in "Better Homes and Gardens" and has been lauded by several industry periodicals, most recently - the September issue of "Automated Builder." He is also in an upcoming edition of Business Week.

As California's custom modular home leader, Altamont Homes is prepared to build custom-designed dream homes at a lesser cost than an on-site constructed home; Cutler will ensure its attractive and savvy design.

True modular homes are built in accordance with the same building codes which traditional on-site built homes are constructed - the Uniform Building Code (UBC) or International Building Code (IBC).

These homes are not to be confused with manufactured homes, a more common type of factory-built home constructed to a different building code - the HUD code - which can be more limited in architecture and not as favorable to appraise or finance.

"We also understand that building any type of custom home in California is not easy these days," Peterson said. "There are a myriad of permits to be obtained and strict regulations to comply with through out the entire build process. If the process is not handled correctly, costly delays and cost over runs can easily occur. Professional Project Managers will supervise the entire project to make it efficient and seamless."

BETHESDA, Md. - Oct. 16 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- 2006: The Metro, designed by SK&I Architectural Design Group (www.skiarch.com), has been named the recipient of two awards this fall: the Builder's Choice Award of Merit and the AIA/DC Chapter Award of Merit.

BUILDER magazine has awarded the Builder's Choice Award - its most prestigious - for 26 years, and Metro was one of nearly 400 entries in this year's competition. Metro won in the Attached & Multifamily Homes category and was judged on its innovation in architecture, floor plan efficiency, creative use of materials, and interior design.

The juried AIA/DC Chapter Award - sponsored by the Washington D.C. Chapter of the American Institute of Architects - recognizes excellence in architecture in the metropolitan region, and received over 100 submissions from local architects.

"We are thrilled that Metro continues to be recognized by our peers," said SK&I President Sami Kirkdil, AIA. "The Metro's modern yet contextual architecture is emblematic of how we respond to design challenges." The Metro also won an AIA-Washingtonian Award this year.

The Metro is located on Church Street in Washington, DC's revitalized 14th Street corridor, formerly the automotive show-room district. It is distinguished by a hybrid design consisting of three separate industrial brick façade sections facing the street and a contemporary, sawtooth-patterned facade of floor-to-ceiling glass and steel at the building's rear.

The BUILDER and AIA/DC juries praised The Metro for its ability to fit into its neighborhood context of early-20th century industrial structures and achieve its intention of appearing as separate structures built over a period of time, as well as its plan efficiency. The building contains 53 condominiums on a 1/5-acre lot.

BOSTON, MA -- (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- In a special issue of The Boston Globe Magazine, celebrating "all that is great and new in our city and our suburbs," Arclinea Boston (www.arclineaboston.com) has been named "Best of the New."

In its March 13 issue, the magazine profiled the showroom: "Arclinea, which opened in Boston last February, is more a problem solver than a store. Staffed by architects and architects-in-training, this kitchen showroom features the most ingenious use of space since the skyscraper. Baseboards become drawers. Cabinet doors slide instead of pulling out. And every component is sleek and functional, custom-made in Italy. You control the final design and cost, choosing from thirteen pricing levels of materials. Now you're cooking."

As one of Boston Globe Magazine's selected "favorite new stores, ideas, spaces, faces, hot spots, and restaurants," Arclinea Boston was also awarded a commemorative plaque. The showroom, at 10 St. James Avenue in Boston's Design District, recently reopened after a dramatic redesign. Arclinea moved to its Boston location from Cambridge in February 2004.

"In the short time since the Arclinea Boston showroom opened, the response from designers, building professionals, and homeowners has been amazing," says Philip Guarino, owner of the Arclinea Boston showroom. "To be recognized by The Boston Globe Magazine in this way is a wonderful validation of Arclinea's very high design and production standards."

Arclinea Boston is the flagship showroom in the United States for Arclinea -- an industry leader in the manufacturing of luxury, contemporary kitchens, designed and coordinated by the acclaimed Italian architect Antonio Citterio. Arclinea kitchens are differentiated by their innovative design, creative technology and exquisite materials. The Boston showroom showcases examples of the entire Arclinea Collection, and offers consumers a full-service, turnkey solution to their kitchen design process.
