Techsouth: World Class Speakers at Free, Regional Event
Keynote speakers for the opening day of TechSouth include the opening address by William Vass, Chief Information Officer and Vice President, Information Technology, Sun Microsystems, Inc.; the CIO Luncheon Keynote by Dr. Eng Lim Goh, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI); and the "Talking Tech" address by Amy Wohl, President of Wohl Associates, a syndicated columnist and long-time industry observer. On Wednesday April 20, Mark Marcin, Digital Artists Technical Trainer for Industrial Light + Magic, A Lucasfilm Ltd. Company, will open with the breakfast keynote address. The CEO Luncheon Keynote will be made by Anthony Townsend, Co-Founder of NYCwireless. "In a time of tremendous competition for intellectual capital and talent, TechSouth has scored a tremendous coup," said event chairman and CIO for Lafayette Consolidated Government, Keith Thibodeaux. "And with the recent announcement of the cancellation of COMDEX, regional technology events will see increased participation from global technologists and business leaders." Most events have one speaker of this caliber to be considered a show worth attending. TechSouth's 2005 list of keynote speakers alone would be reason enough to attend. TechSouth's seminar tracks cover a range of topics including Mobility, High Performance Computing, IT Security, Business Solutions, Digital Tools & the Creative Arts, Broadband Applications, the Digital Divide and GIS Technologies and Applications. Doug Menefee, a TechSouth volunteer, said the keynote addresses are designed for a wider audience, not just "techies," but business and political leaders as well. About TechSouth TechSouth 2005 will be held April 19-20 at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette, LA. Last year, there were over 1000 registered attendees with total attendance estimated at 1300, representing 14 states and four countries. Approximately 27 percent of attendees were management-level or higher. At least 40 percent of attendees were in IT fields. TechSouth is produced by volunteers, Gulf Coast regional technology councils, Chambers of Commerce, economic development organizations and universities.
