Press Release:
Camvera Connects Kentucky! New Wireless Broadband System in Russellville, KY to Provide High-Speed Wireless Internet Service
ATLANTA, GA - September 14 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Camvera Networks, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the Electric Plant Board of Russellville, Kentucky to construct a state-of-the-art high-speed wireless broadband service for the residents and businesses of Russellville and the surrounding area. The new wireless system is highly secure and features non-line-of-sight access technology. It will be the third of its kind in Kentucky with many more planned. Camvera will install, commission, and maintain the new system.
"While DSL and cable modems provide relatively fast access, their services are limited to certain areas," said Larry Wilcutt, Superintendent of Russellville's Electric Plant Board (EPB). "This leaves many people without high-speed service, and we hope to change that," noted Wilcutt. "Further, as the term 'wireless' indicates, there will be no need for a telephone line or other 'wire' to homes or businesses with the new system. In effect, the area around Russellville will become a virtual wireless 'hotspot' for anyone signing up for the EPB's wireless service," stated Wilcutt. He emphasized, "the service will be available for EPB electric customers and others outside its current service area."
"We are very excited about working with the EPB to install the new wireless system in Russellville," said Carl Peede, president and CEO of Camvera Networks. "The non-line-of-sight technology will 'talk' through trees for several miles from the tower, making it easy to install and use. In addition, customers need to understand that the service is not the traditional, open access Wi-Fi type of wireless, but a highly secure system that will provide high-speed Internet connectivity up to ten miles or so from the main tower. Similar technology is being deployed in Georgia and Florida by BellSouth," noted Peede.
The system planned for Russellville will be the third such system installed in Kentucky by Camvera. The first two systems were commissioned last year in Mayfield, Kentucky to serve residents of Mayfield and surrounding Graves County.
Camvera strongly believes that wireless technology represents the most economical means for delivering high-speed broadband services to the greatest number of under-served and non-served individuals and businesses in rural areas.
Having recently ended its relationship with Governor Fletcher's "ConnectKentucky" initiative due to ConnectKentucky's exclusion of governmental and utility participation, Camvera is now working independently with a number of small cities and utilities to bring broadband to the citizens of Kentucky who have been left behind by the local telephone and cable companies.
The system in Russellville will be installed by early November, 2005, and after testing and verification, will be available for customer use by early, December. Several levels of service will be offered for both residential and business customers on a first-come, first-serve basis. Exact pricing and available speeds will be determined in the coming weeks.
