NASHVILLE, TN (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CyberAngel(R) Security Solutions, Inc. Although Privacy Acts have been in effect for a while, 23 states have now passed a law requiring notification to all who might have had their confidential information breached by a hacking attempt or stolen computer.

These laws require companies to notify state residents whenever their unencrypted personal information is reasonably believed to have been obtained by an unauthorized person. This notification, which is being considered for a federal law, can be extremely expensive and embarrassing. One university recently spent over $2.4 million to satisfy this notification requirement over one stolen laptop. The key to avoiding these costs is "encryption," since the laws are only applicable to notify if the data is unencrypted.
