The CyberAngel(R) leads the way in Data Protection & Unauthorized Access Notification
Published: Wed, 11 Jan 2006, 14:22:00 EDT
NASHVILLE, TN (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CyberAngel(R) Security Solutions, Inc. (CSS, Inc.), an established leader since 1996 in Data Protection & Tracking and Recovery, is helping companies across the country comply with Security Breach Notification Laws and Privacy Acts. Although Privacy Acts have been in effect for a while, 23 states have now passed a law requiring notification to all who might have had their confidential information breached by a hacking attempt or stolen computer.
These laws require companies to notify state residents whenever their unencrypted personal information is reasonably believed to have been obtained by an unauthorized person. This notification, which is being considered for a federal law, can be extremely expensive and embarrassing. One university recently spent over $2.4 million to satisfy this notification requirement over one stolen laptop. The key to avoiding these costs is "encryption," since the laws are only applicable to notify if the data is unencrypted.
The CyberAngel is uniquely qualified to address these needs by providing User Authentication, violation of which notifies the client of that unauthorized attempt; and confidential information is protected with using strong encryption for data protection. The CyberAngel Secure Drive encrypts files, e-mails, databases, and even applications such as VPN clients.
This Real-Time Security combination of encryption and notification is triggered as soon as the computer boots up. With over 10 years experience and a recovery ratio above 80%, The CyberAngel is playing an increasing role in corporate security.
Many companies and universities learn the hard way that it does not matter if any information was compromised, only that it was unencrypted and was possibly accessed. In 2005, at least 134 possible Security Breach incidents were disclosed, potentially affecting more than 57 million individuals.
A Michigan union recently had to pay a $275,000 Privacy Act judgment for not protecting sensitive data. The majority of the state statutes only require notification if a breach compromises unencrypted personal information. Organizations that encrypt personal information will not only better protect consumers, but also avoid onerous notification obligations.
