Voters in Arizona and California Work to Protect Victims of Judicial Corruption
Wed, 20 Dec 2006, 18:37:00 EDT
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Dec. 20 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- A federal judicial reform group led by Victor Palomino is submitting an online petition to Congress to curb alleged judicial corruption. The petition is in response to recent evidence for increased negligence and alleged corruption by members of the judiciary. The goal is to hold Federal Judges accountable, in order to ensure that innocent people are not made into victims.
"We request on April 23, 2007 that all U.S. citizens send emails to Congress asking for the establishment of an independent non-judicial body that has full subpoena powers to investigate Federal Judges," says Palomino.
Litigants who have evidence that a judge has engaged in misconduct or misinterpreted facts of the law should be able to lodge complaints with this agency. If there is evidence for misconduct, the judges would be disciplined and the relevant decisions invalidated. In order to avoid separation of powers problems, the agency would have to report to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court would have the right to review decisions made by the body.
Anant Kumar Tripati has been actively challenging judicial corruption in the courts:
On November 3, 2006 Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Judges Pamela Ann Rymer and Sidney R. Thomas of the Ninth Circuit decided on appeal 04-17148 brought by Mr. Tripati. Their decision is posted on www.corruptarizonacourts.com along with other key legal documents.
Fred Romero, an attorney speaking for Mr. Tripati, states that: "We have been advised by lawyers who have reviewed the record and the decision that because Anant Kumar Tripati has been active in challenging judicial corruption, the courts have blacklisted him. The decision by Justice O'Connor and the two Circuit Judges does not have any support in the record. It appears that federal judges are acting to protect former colleagues accused of corruption at the state level."
This ruling is the latest in a series on the Tripati case, where Federal Judges have been accused of a dereliction of duty in denying the right of appeal without reviewing the record. It is crucial that cases alleging judicial impropriety, such as Mr. Tripati's, have an independent body to oversee the conduct of Federal Judges hearing the case.
