About Doberman Rescue Unlimited (DRU) Since DRU's founding in 1988, this non-profit organization has helped over 1,200 homeless Doberman Pinschers. Many who are rescued suffer from the effects of abuse and neglect with most in poor or life-threatening situations. Each animal taken in by DRU is examined by a veterinarian, tested, treated, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, tattooed with an ID number in case it becomes lost or stolen, and placed. Pending placement, the animals are kept in foster homes or in various facilities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Each animal is evaluated carefully before placement to assure that the animal and its new home are a good match. Other important functions of DRU are public education, animal care and obedience counseling, and training for being placed with the elderly, hearing or sight-impaired.
