BOSTON, MA (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Julie Akerson Chicos today announced the publication of her new book, “The Life of Riley the Cat” (ISBN: 1412058589), a picture book from Trafford Publishing designed to help kids learn self esteem, tolerance and responsibility.

“The Life of Riley the Cat” is an uplifting, heartwarming tale about a curious cat who is awakened from a leisurely nap by an unfamiliar noise. The mysterious clamor leads to an encounter with an arrogant crow who impels Riley on a journey of personal exploration in search of her own purpose. Along the way, Riley meets a menagerie of strange and exotic creatures including Cornelius the spider, Felix the bee and even a black cat named Jabber who all share their unique tales with Riley. Try though she might however, Riley does not find what she is looking for until she returns home and meets an insightful bat named Bart right in her very own backyard.

“‘The Life of Riley the Cat’ weaves a tale that is not only endearing and engrossing, but teaches kids valuable life lessons,” said Julie Akerson Chicos, the book’s author. “The rich and inviting illustrations pull children into this amiable story of worthiness, courage and acceptance. Ominous creatures were purposely used to educate children about our environment and encourage acceptance of diversity. The message is limitless and is as meaningful to children as it is to parents. I think we can all learn a lot from Riley!”

Julie Akerson Chicos grew up in a small town in Maine, where she learned valuable lessons about morality, compassion and how to make the world a better place. Julie was the youngest of seven children and since most of her toys were hand-me-downs, she was attracted to stories because they were something that would never break or get old. Mrs. Chicos wrote “The Life of Riley the Cat” while pregnant with her son with the purpose of teaching him the wonderful lessons that her parents taught her as a child. Today, Julie divides her time between Marblehead and Nantucket Island with her husband Ken, their son, Owen, and their faithful cat Riley.

“The Life of Riley the Cat” by Julie Akerson Chicos ($14.00 ISBN: 1412058589) is available through local book stores as well as on Amazon.com, Borders.com and BookSense.com or through distributors such as Bertram and Baker & Taylor.
