But we decided to make it musical and celebratory, instead of criminal and potentially impeachable. That\u2019s why we\u2019re going to play some of the greatest music Russia has given the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The selections will include: Leonid Desyatnikov\u2019s \u201cSketches to Sunset<em>,<\/em>\u201d Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov\u2019s \u201cProcession of the Sardar,\u201d the second movement from Prokoviev\u2019s Symphony No. 5, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov\u2019s \u201cThe Tsar\u2019s Bride Overture,\u201d Shostakovich\u2019s Jazz Suite No. 1, Grigory Smirnov\u2019s \u201cAir,\u201d and Stravinsky\u2019s \u201cRagtime for 11 Instruments.\u201d The group will also present a special new arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov\u2019s \u201cFlight of the Bumble Bee,\u201d performed by pianist Garah Landes and percussionist Gregory Landes.<\/p>\n<p>Cited by \u201cThe New York Times\u201d for their \u201cflair,\u201d \u201cspirited readings,\u201d and \u201cplayfully cohesive programs,\u201d \u201cmaking an hour-long serving of modern works not just palatable but enticing,\u201d the Pit Stop Players have taken their place at the cutting edge of New York\u2019s cultural landscape, bringing exciting contemporary music to new audiences, and upending conventional assumptions about concert programming.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2009 by conductor\/composer Joshua Rosenblum, the ensemble is comprised of some of New York\u2019s top freelance musicians, commonly regarded as the best instrumentalists in the world. Repertoire includes arrangements and transcriptions of great pieces from the recent past (encompassing numerous genres), as well as undeservedly neglected classical gems, but the primary emphasis is on new compositions that are both challenging and immediately engaging, written and orchestrated specifically for the group by today\u2019s most exciting creative talents.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights have included the group\u2019s performance of \u201cThe Rite of Spring\u201d in a specially-commissioned new chamber arrangement, as well as Rosenblum\u2019s own \u201cYoung Person\u2019s Guide to the Pit Stop Players,\u201d with special guest narrator Cynthia Nixon.
