AARP announced its grant recipients on its website on 7 September, 2017. CARR is one of only 4 AARP\u2019s Community Challenge Grant recipients in California.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.send2press.com\/wire\/images\/17-0912-carr-696x522.jpg\" alt=\"Consumer Advocates for RCFE Reform\" width=\"696\" height=\"522\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28817\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.send2press.com\/wire\/images\/17-0912-carr-696x522.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.send2press.com\/wire\/images\/17-0912-carr-696x522-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.send2press.com\/wire\/images\/17-0912-carr-696x522-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><br \/>\nCARR has been funded to create an innovative board game based on the \u201c8 Domains of Livability\u201d framework used by the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities, and is designed to engage older adults in the process of making San Diego a more age-friendly city.<\/p>\n<p>Christina Selder, CARR\u2019s Principal Investigator underscores the value of this program: \u201cOur goal for the game is to engage community members in discussions to rethink San Diego\u2019s senior housing and care models in terms of age-friendliness. CARR\u2019s focus is assisted living advocacy; we believe many of the 8 domains of livability are directly relevant to improving the lives of assisted living residents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CARR\u2019s Executive Director, Chris Murphy notes, \u201cThis is the second significant grant the organization has received this year; earlier CARR received a grant from the San Diego Foundation to investigate accessibility and affordability of assisted living in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>About CARR:<\/strong><br \/>\nConsumer Advocates for RCFE Reform (CARR) is a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization specializing in public document research (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rcfereform.org\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.rcfereform.org<\/a>) on assisted living facilities, and the state\u2019s oversight of the industry. CARR is one of two First Amendment Coalition\u2019s 2014 recipients of its Free Speech and Open Government Award. In 2014 CARR sponsored AB 1523 (Atkins) requiring assisted living facilities to carry liability insurance; the bill was signed into law in August 2014.
