\nAn Evening with The Texas State Men & Boys Choir<\/a> at Carnegie Hall\u2019s Zankel Hall\u00a0takes place March 15, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.\u00a0Preview concerts will be held in Austin on February 24, Oklahoma City on March 3, and Fort Worth on March 10.<\/p>\n
The Texas State Men\u00a0& Boys Choir will be joined in this performance by members of the prestigious Texas Girls\u2019 Choir, announced Gary McGrath, founder and executive director of the Texas State Men & Boys Choir.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this tour, I wanted to be able to show off all three records\u00a0we\u2019ve created from the last three years\u00a0as well as preview our fourth record that comes out May of 2018,\u201d\u00a0McGrath said.\u00a0\u201cSo I asked the leadership of the Texas Girls\u2019 Choir if they would be our special guests, and they graciously accepted.\u201d<\/p>\n
The promise of Carnegie has been a\u00a0humbling experience for McGrath and his fellow choir members.<\/p>\n
McGrath and numerous members of the TSMBC are alums of the Texas Boys Choir and trained since early childhood in classical music. For these hard-training, classical vocalists, the promise of Carnegie is right up there with the possibility of the Dallas Cowboys making a\u00a0Super\u00a0Bowl.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so grateful to these men and boys for three years of true dedication and heart,\u201d\u00a0McGrath said.\u00a0\u201cThey [the members of the choir] have really worked hard to show\u00a0the choral world what they can do in live performance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Layne Trent, executive director of the Texas Girls\u2019 Choir, said the road to Carnegie was made possible by a wonderful growing relationship between her members and members the Texas State Men & Boys Choir.<\/p>\n
\u201cMr. McGrath is a wonderful record producer and has really challenged our girls to continue learning and evolving their musical talent and they have loved every minute of it,\u201d\u00a0Trent said.\u00a0\u201cThis opportunity to do multiple concerts in a full SATB setting is very special and will be the first time in our 55-year history that\u00a0we\u2019ve been a part of something like this. To do a wonderful record in our hometown of Fort Worth and then be able to perform selections from it at Carnegie Hall is simply a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
The combination of the two choirs will be conducted by\u00a0Choral Master and composer, David C.\u00a0Featherstone, and Texas State Men & Boys Choir Austin campus director, Morris Crayton.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is really exciting,\u201d\u00a0Featherstone said.\u00a0\u201cThese two choirs bring youth and adults together to allow for something that transcends generations and politics and allows\u00a0[us]\u00a0to give, not just a musical education, but a way to enrich lives beyond measure.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Texas State Men & Boys Choir debuted their record,\u00a0\u201cPrayers, Poems & Promises\u201d\u00a0on iTunes classical charts at #39 in April 2016.<\/p>\n
This was followed in November 2016 with a Christmas CD entitled\u00a0\u201cFollowing The Star,\u201d\u00a0which the TSMBC performed with the world-renowned, Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir. It sold out of three pressings.<\/p>\n
The TSMBC teamed up again with the Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir and the acclaimed Texas Girls\u2019 Choir in August 2017 for a CD that pays tribute to legendary Fort Worth composer Jack Noble White.\u00a0That CD marked the first time that all three world class organizations teamed up to represent the North Texas region fine arts.<\/p>\n
