NEW YORK, N.Y., Sept. 29, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Pit Stop Players, a celebrated instrumental chamber ensemble composed of veteran Broadway pit musicians, launch their seventh season with a concert of fantasy-themed music at Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church, 152 West 66th Street, on October 24, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The selections will include John Adams\u2019s \u201cThe Chairman Dances,\u201d Freddy Mercury\u2019s \u201cBohemian Rhapsody, a suite from David Shire\u2019s widely praised score to the film \u201cReturn to Oz,\u201d and Pit Stop music director Joshua Rosenblum\u2019s \u201cNightmare on Ninth Avenue.\u201d The concert will also feature a mash-up of Earth Wind and Fire\u2019s \u201cFantasy\u201d and Frederic Chopin\u2019s \u201cFantasie-Impromptu,\u201d with Garah Landes as piano soloist. The concert also includes the world premieres of David Chesky\u2019s \u201cVenetian Concerto No. 3\u201d and Gary William Friedman\u2019s \u201cDream Within a Dream,\u201d based on the poem by Edgar Allen Poe.<\/p>\n
Regarding the programming, Rosenblum said, \u201cI wanted to put together a group of pieces that were all somehow fantasy-related. With some of them, the theme is more obvious than with others. David Chesky said his piece is so hard that actually being able to play it might be a fantasy itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Founded in 2009 by conductor\/composer Joshua Rosenblum, the ensemble is comprised of some of New York\u2019s top freelance musicians, commonly regarded as the best instrumentalists in the world. Repertoire includes arrangements and transcriptions of great pieces from the recent past (encompassing numerous genres), as well as undeservedly neglected classical gems, but the primary emphasis is on new compositions that are both challenging and immediately engaging, written and orchestrated specifically for the group by today\u2019s most exciting creative talents.<\/p>\n
Highlights have included the group\u2019s performance of \u201cThe Rite of Spring\u201d in a specially-commissioned new chamber arrangement, as well as Rosenblum\u2019s own \u201cYoung Person\u2019s Guide to the Pit Stop Players,\u201d with special guest narrator Cynthia Nixon. Last spring at Symphony Space, the Players gave a joint performance with the Brooklyn-based dance company The Chase Brock Experience, an artistic collaboration which zealnyc.com described as \u201cperfecting perfection.\u201d<\/p>\n
