The event will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Sacramento from noon to 2:00 pm. Diana Becton, Contra Costa County District Attorney, will be the keynote speaker. Ms. Becton is a former Presiding Judge for Contra Costa County Superior Court, and is the first African American to serve as Contra Costa County District Attorney.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the past 17 years, NCBW has celebrated community leaders who exemplify compassion, vision, and integrity throughout the Sacramento region,\u201d said NCBW chapter president, Dr. Elizabeth Sherrell-Davis.<\/p>\n<h4><em>This year\u2019s 2018 Women in Law Enforcement Award honorees are:<\/em><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Police\/Sheriff<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Felicia Allen <\/strong>\u2013 She was one of the first two women sworn to serve on the Sacramento Police Department in 1974.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sergeant Sabrina Briggs<\/strong> \u2013 She is the first African American female Police Sergeant on the Sacramento Police Department.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flossie Crump<\/strong> \u2013 She was one of the first two women sworn to serve on the Sacramento Police Department in 1974.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amanda L. Ray <\/strong>\u2013 First African American female officer in California Highway Patrol history to achieve the rank of Assistant Commissioner, Staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Judicial System<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Honorable Alice Lytle <\/strong>\u2013 Judge Lytle (retired) was the first African American woman to serve on the Sacramento Bench, and in 1998 when the courts were unified, she became the first-ever African American female Superior Court Judge in California.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Corrections<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Connie Gipson <\/strong>\u2013 Deputy Director for Facility Operations, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robin L. Harrington <\/strong>\u2013 Chief Deputy Warden (Retired), Female Offender Programs and Services.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Odette Y. Crawford <\/strong>\u2013 Associate Warden, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (Retired).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Organization<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wiley Manuel Bar Association of Sacramento County <\/strong>\u2013 A local organization of attorneys who promote the administration of justice and make use of legal tools and legal discipline for the advancement of the economic, political, educational, and social interest of Sacramento, especially the Black community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThere will also be an award given to a high school student deemed to be a \u2018Rising Star\u2019 based on the student\u2019s community service commitment, academic success or criteria that demonstrates that they are on a path to success,\u201d explained Sherrell-Davis. This year\u2019s Rising Star awardee is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jordan Brown <\/strong>\u2013 2018 graduate of Grant Union High School in Sacramento, where she was Senior Class President and Captain-Criminal Justice Magnet Academy. Ms. Brown is currently a freshman at California State University, Fresno.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The annual luncheon and award celebration is a fundraiser for NCBW\u2019s educational, public service, and scholarships campaigns.
