That\u2019s why Ori\u2019Zaba\u2019s stresses a culture that celebrates women leaders,\u201d McClurg said.<\/p>\n<p>The company actively engages in a hiring and promotional process that increases the number of talented women in leadership roles. More than 80 percent of the of Ori\u2019Zaba\u2019s Franchise General Managers are women. About 60 percent of the company\u2019s executive team are women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen make up the majority of the population and it\u2019s about time companies and franchises reflect that reality and bring more women into all workplaces,\u201d McClurg said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to enhance our culture, improve training, and reduce turnover. The people we have in our GM positions have been able to achieve that. I believe that is a testament to skills that are not traditionally thought of as strong leadership characteristics. When we start thinking about what actually impacts our business and the bottom line versus what makes a \u2018strong\u2019 leader, these women have been able to make a difference,\u201d McClurg said.<\/p>\n<p>In honor of International Women\u2019s Day 2020, which takes place March 8, and to truly understand the significance of Ori\u2019Zaba\u2019s commitment, McClurg said it is important to highlight the history of the international women\u2019s rights movement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The History of International Women\u2019s Day<\/strong><br \/>\nSince the first gathering in 1911, International Women&#8217;s Day (IWD) has been celebrated annually on March 8.<\/p>\n<p>In that time, the women\u2019s rights movement has celebrated many victories, including but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 1948, the United Nations adopted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/universal-declaration-human-rights\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">the first international document to assert <\/a>\u201cthe dignity and worth of the human person and [the] equal rights of men and women.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In 1979, the UN General Assembly adopted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/professionalinterest\/pages\/cedaw.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow\">Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In 2017, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2017_Women%252527s_March\" rel=\"nofollow\">Women\u2019s March on Washington, DC<\/a>, became the largest international mass demonstration in support of women\u2019s rights. Affiliated marches were held in Accra, Bangkok, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wmagazine.com\/gallery\/womens-march-paris-photographs\/all\" rel=\"nofollow\">Paris<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/australia-anti-trump-protests\/3686004.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">Nairobi<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.stlpublicradio.org\/post\/st-louis-womens-march-draws-thousands-downtown\" rel=\"nofollow\">Belgrade<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/37-stunning-photos-from-womens-marches-around-the-world_us_58811ee7e4b096b4a23090f8\" rel=\"nofollow\">Buenos Aires<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/37-stunning-photos-from-womens-marches-around-the-world_us_58811ee7e4b096b4a23090f8\" rel=\"nofollow\">Krakow<\/a>, and even <a href=\"http:\/\/people.com\/politics\/womens-march-protest-antarctica-donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Antarctica<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Women in Leadership<\/strong><br \/>\nBy 2018, women made up nearly half (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catalyst.org\/research\/women-in-management\/%23easy-footnote-bottom-24-3711\" rel=\"nofollow\">46.9%)<\/a> of the whole US labor force, yet they only accounted for slightly over a third (40.0%) of managers.<\/p>\n<p>Believe it or not, in 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catalyst.org\/research\/women-in-management\/%23easy-footnote-bottom-23-3711\" rel=\"nofollow\">there were still fewer women in leadership positions than there were men named John.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>That figure seems astounding in light of research conducted by <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2019\/06\/research-women-score-higher-than-men-in-most-leadership-skills\">Harvard Business Review<\/a> found that, \u201cWomen Score Higher Than Men in Most Leadership Skills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a woman who has served in the military and in the corporate world, I do understand the challenges that women face in the workplace. My intention has been to create a place where people can be successful right along with the company.
