\u201cWhen I was 15, I had an experience that changed my life,\u201d says Arias in his\u00a0Voices of Humanity<\/a>\u00a0episode. Kidnappers carrying machine guns forced him and one of his best friends into the back of a van.\u00a0\u201cI thought I was going to die,\u201d he says.\u00a0\u201cThey saw in my friend\u2019s papers that his father was a general and they didn\u2019t want to get into any trouble with the army, so they let us go. That opened my eyes to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

He enrolled in a human rights certification program at the National University of Mexico which led to his attending a conference on human trafficking.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were about 7,000 people there and most of them were parents carrying photos of missing children,\u201d he says. He learned that one in four victims of human trafficking is a child and 99 percent of those trafficked are girls or women. He realized that if he were the parent of one of those missing daughters, he would never give up trying to find her.\u00a0\u201cThat opened my heart to emotions I never had before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arias attended an event at the Church of Scientology Mexico, where he was introduced to Youth for Human Rights, a human rights awareness and education program sponsored by the Church of Scientology.\u00a0\u201cI fell in love with this program,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

The episode documents major inroads created by Arias and his team with a movement reaching all segments of society through education on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in schools throughout the country.<\/p>\n
