Most of the films will be shown virtually, with six in-person events hosted by partners of the festival.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.send2press.com\/wire\/images\/22-0210-s2p-rvaeff-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"RVA Environmental Film Festival 2022\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-78862\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.send2press.com\/wire\/images\/22-0210-s2p-rvaeff-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.send2press.com\/wire\/images\/22-0210-s2p-rvaeff-800x600-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.send2press.com\/wire\/images\/22-0210-s2p-rvaeff-800x600-200x150.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Again this year, RVA EFF held the Virginia Environmental Film Contest. First prize went to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.headwatersdown.com\/\">Headwaters Down<\/a>,\u201d directed by Justin Black, Will Gemma, and Dietrich Teschner. This film tells the story of five friends who undertake a 13-day, 250-mile canoe adventure from the headwaters of the James River to the fall line in Richmond. Along the way, they explore the environmental and historical aspects of the troubled yet beautiful river as they witness first-hand the many factors impacting its future.<\/p>\n<p>The two second prize winners were \u201cBreathing Life Back Into Richmond,\u201d directed by Jackie Stephens and \u201cCanaries in the Coal Mine,\u201d written, directed and produced by Nick Garnhart. Two youth awards were also given. All five films will be shown virtually the evening of Sunday, February 20. \u201cHeadwaters Down\u201d will also be shown at The Byrd Theater on February 27. It\u00a0inspires real solutions toward lasting sustainability and a better quality of life for all Earth&#8217;s inhabitants. The Virginia Interfaith Power &amp; Light hosts \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=n4LVRdKJbIw\">Mossville, When Great Trees Fall<\/a>,\u201d telling the story of one man who refuses to give up when his centuries-old black community, contaminated by petrochemical plants, faces the loss of its ancestral home.<\/p>\n<p>The Richmond Public Library &amp; City Office of Sustainability host \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Cj7vkS8b9Q8\">The Sacrifice Zone<\/a>,\u201d following a group of environmental justice fighters determined to break the cycle of poor communities of color serving as dumping grounds for our consumer society. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/671729504\">High Tide in Dorchester<\/a>\u201d focuses on ground zero for sea level rise along the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay.
