UPDATES ON GRANT PROGRAM Dec. 12th, 2008:
Thank you for your patience this week as we took longer than expected to choose our Neotrope 2009 PR Grant Recipients. We had nearly 600 applications, and roughly 550 "qualified" applicants (some were not actually non-profits, some were duplicates) this year, which is a new record, and more than double the prior year applicants for this program. Thank you for your participation!
Neotrope has provided support for non-profits in various ways for more than 25 years (technically, Jan. 1, 2009 is our 26th anniversary), and providing these services is our way of doing more than simply writing some small checks which do not provide much long-term benefit for your organization. By donating our services, we help to improve your org's visibility and awareness to media, public, and interested parties in media and online.
However, we managed to review all of them and based on various factors which include the "need" of said organization, the "doing goodness" of an organization, and little things like the actual "spirit" of what the org is trying to accomplish. Surprisingly, we got some applications from various rather large groups with famous names and branches of large groups which are better funded than most. Taking all of these factors together, including a tiny amount of personal bias from our staff, perhaps, we have selected the following ten organizations to whom we will be donating services in 2009:
- Children Awaiting Parents, Inc., New York, www.ChildrenAwaitingParents.org
- Starlight Children's Foundation, California, www.starlight.org
- Project SEED, Inc., California, www.projectseed.org
- Girls Write Now, Inc., New York, www.girlswritenow.org
- Paws of Life Foundation, Iowa, www.pawsoflife.org
- Newhouse, Missouri, www.newhouseshelter.org
- World Savvy Inc., California, www.worldsavvy.org
- Special Equestrians, Pennsylvania, www.specialequestrians.org
- Barnabas International, Inc., Florida, www.biijax.org
- Museum of Photographic Arts, California, www.mopa.org
The winner of the drawing for the OLPC, is Middle College High School National Consortium, Inc. (www.mcnc.us).
We will be contacting each of the orgs individually over the next few days in order to start the wheels turning for January. So, if you see your org above, we'll be contacting you directly next week.

What is this all about?
Neotrope, a highly respected PR, brand identity and marketing firm, established January 1983, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To celebrate three consecutive "best years ever," we are donating $25,000 in "PR Grants" to worthy small non-profit organizations who may be suffering this year due to the economic down-turn.
Specifically, worthy organizations who are selected by our staff to receive a grant will be provided with services that may include consulting, public relations assistance, newswire services to promote organization activities to media folk, and Internet marketing. Amount of each grant will vary, but up to ten non-profits will receive a grant, and one half of those will be within California. Again, this will not be a cash grant, but services provided which have a dollar value of at least $25,000 (please read the press releases from the links, below).
All qualified applicants, whether given grants or not, are also immediately eligible for 20% off selected Send2Press® Newswire services (inquire).
How to Submit Application Form:
IMPORTANT: your organization must be a qualified U.S.-based non-profit, with IRS provided EIN. A "not-for-profit" organization will not qualify. Ideally, you should have a physical business address other than P.O. box, and a pre-existing website. You must be an authorized representative (board member, secretary, or similar) of the non-profit to submit an application. (See application for additional information.)
The application period ended Dec. 7, 2008.
OLPC All Qualified Applicants Will Be Entered to Win:
All qualified applicant organizations will be entered into a drawing for a brand new One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) which may be used for raffle or similar fund-raising effort for the winning org. Photos, below, to right of the main image are of the actual brand-new, never-used item which will ship to winner of drawing (we have the new unit here ready to ship). OLPC must be used to benefit the organization and not for personal use of a staff or board member of the winning organization. Shipping is included, but any taxes will be responsibility of winning org.
