for McKenzie Scott, announced a new guide for people choosing an outplacement
firm.
- Be sure you receive a written explanation of the exact services to be
provided for you. This needs to include the guarantees for you ... and the
guarantees for your corporate sponsor who is paying for the service.
- Be sure that you understand the program and level of services your sponsor
company has agreed to provide. Outplacement firms offer a range of services and
the more advanced organizations make available a number of options that can make
job hunting easier and faster. If your sponsor doesn't offer everything you
need, you may want to consider purchasing some additional services on your own.
McKenzie Scott's Smith also said that people need to look out for the
following:
- Some outplacement firms employ part-time contractors to deliver their
services. When possible, choose firms using their own full-time specialists who
will be available to support you for up to one year.
- All outplacement firms will offer their advice on how you should be marketed. The best firms will put all their recommendations in writing, usually
a 10- to 15-page report that summarizes all the actions you need to take to be
successful.
- Some outplacement firms only offer you advice on how to write your own
resume. When possible, choose firms that will do the writing for you.
- Some firms offer only counsel and don't really market you. When possible,
choose firms that will place your resume with large employers, growth firms,
venture capitalists and recruiters.
