SANTA BARBARA, CA – April 27 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Trailblazer Gloria Molina, chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, will be honored as the 2006 Hispanic Business Woman of the Year in a special ceremony along with 19 other Elite Women. The special ceremony will take place Thursday, May 4, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and some seating is still available. Maria Silva from KVBC News 3 in Las Vegas will preside as this year’s Mistress of Ceremonies.

It is the fourth year of the prestigious award, and Supervisor Molina is being recognized for her professional achievements and creating new opportunities for other enterprising Hispanic women leaders.

“Great leaders have impact, and no one illustrates that better than Gloria Molina. For two decades, she has promoted Hispanic political participation by example and advocacy,” states Jesús Chavarría, editor and publisher of Hispanic Business magazine.

The April issue of Hispanic Business magazine, on newsstands now, features Ms. Molina and the select group of Hispanic women who have made a national impact by demonstrating the highest levels of achievement in their professions.

The Woman of the Year finalists include:

* Patt Romero Cronin, IBM’s vice-president of global business transformation

* Anne Marie Estevez, partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius

* Patricia Madrid, Attorney General for the State of New Mexico

* Antonia Coello Novello, New York State Commissioner of Health

* Miriam Rivera, vice-president and deputy general counsel at Google

Ms. Molina, made history in 1991 when she became the first Hispanic woman to be elected as a supervisor in L.A. County, giving her one of the largest constituencies of anyone in the country. With a population of 10.2 million and a GDP of $400 billion, L.A. County is larger than many sovereign states. Ms. Molina’s political career began in the 1970s with the Chicano movement. She was elected to the California State Assembly in 1982 and then to the Los Angeles City Council in 1987, where she served until running for supervisor.
