BOSTON, MA – May 12 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Abigail Barrow, Ph.D., Director of the Massachusetts Technology Transfer Center (MTTC), will serve as a panelist at the New England -Canada Business Council (NECBC)’s 6th Annual Emerging Technology, Trade & Investment Conference – “Partnering for Success” – on Friday, June 10, at the World Trade Center in Boston.

Dr. Barrow will be participating with three other experts on the second of three conference panels – “Emerging Technology in New England and Canada” – which will showcase innovative new technologies and explore how such issues as technology transfer, intellectual property rights, and licensing affect their development and deployment.

MTCC, created two years ago, is dedicated to enhancing the state’s competitive position in the national global innovation economy by helping public and private institutions move inventions from the laboratory to the marketplace.

Prior to joining MTCC, Dr. Barrow served as managing director of the William J. von Liebig Center at the University of California-San Diego (UCSD), which supports the commercialization of research being conducted at UC-San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering. She has also served as a member of the board of directors of the Center for the Commercialization of Advanced Technologies Consortium (CCAT), which is comprised of UCSD, San Diego State University, Lockheed Martin, Orincon, and SPAWAR Systems Center (U.S. Navy).

In addition, as director of programs at the USCD Connect initiative, Dr. Barrow developed and expanded many of its programs to support early stage company formation and technology commercialization. The Connect program is now internationally recognized and has been successfully replicated in other North American sites, as well as in Europe.

Dr. Barrow received her Ph.D. from the Science Studies Unit, and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh.

The NECBC conference will also feature a luncheon keynote address by Renee Fry, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ undersecretary or economic development and director of business and technology, as well as other panel discussions on such timely topics as partnerships and co-sourcing, and cross-border venture capital financing.
