Announces Partnership with Electricité de France SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Feb. 26, 2003 /PRnetwire.com/ -- Interact Devices, Inc., an emerging leader in narrow bandwidth video and audio distribution solutions for broadcast and communications, announced today that they have entered into a cooperative project with Electricité de France (EdF), the world's largest utility. EdF operates a diverse portfolio of 100,000+ megawatts of generation capacity in Europe, and overseas, and serves 45 million customers worldwide. The relationship is both an investment by EdF and a collaboration agreement between the two companies. The investment was made in support of Interact Devices' video compression flagship products that employ the company's Liquid Intelligence(tm) technology. Under the terms of the agreement, EdF will contribute resources from its 2,500 person Research & Development staff and its experience of the European markets to develop applications and services using Interact's Liquid Intelligence technology. Liquid Intelligence marshals state-of-the-art computer processing to continuously optimize compression and delivery of audio and video media using an artificially intelligent compression control layer. Employing standard industry compression / decompression algorithms (CODECs), Liquid Intelligence(tm) delivers superior quality video over existing legacy communications channels. Liquid Intelligence employs two key components: Liquid Compression(tm) and Liquid Delivery(tm). Liquid Compression continuously iterates and optimizes choices and settings of CODECs for each media segment. Liquid Delivery manages all aspects of media delivery to the client platform, adjusting in real time for changes in communications channel quality and client platform performance. Interact Devices currently sells high quality, low bandwidth, low entry price, video conferencing solutions powered by the Company's core technologies. The first release of Liquid Intelligence based streaming products is planned for a March-April timeframe. "Groupe Electricité de France is the perfect partner to assist Interact in the development of new applications ", said Greg Kilgore, Chief Executive Officer of Interact Devices. "EDF has a great deal of experience into the application of technologies with their numerous customers, whether we are talking about video surveillance, video conferencing, or IP video streaming over power lines. With the support of EdF we will be able to reach a whole new level." "The perspectives to apply such innovative technologies to new services, like video-surveillance, are very exciting for the EDF Group in the context of developing new solutions for its industrial and municipal customers" said Alain Sarrazin, Senior Vice President, EDF Business & Innovation Division.
