FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -------------------------- Of interest to editors/authors covering: Regional New Jersey News NJ ASSEMBLYWOMAN FRISCIA TO DISTRIBUTE 500 DONATED CELL PHONES FOR SENIOR CITIZEN SAFTEY CAMPAIGN EDISON, NJ - May 9, 2003 /PRnetwire.com/ -- In a world where technology is so abundant, it seems almost outrageous that preventable tragedies still occur due to lack of available communication. A local cellular phone store, Cellular Fashions and Assemblywoman Arline Friscia of Middlesex County pledge to change this with their Senior Citizen Safety Campaign. On May 14th, on the grand opening of their fourth store, located at the corner of Route 27 and Parsonage Road in Colonial Village in Edison, 500 phones collected by Cellular Fashions will be turned over to Assemblywoman Friscia for distribution. These used phones donated by local residents will be refurbished and programmed to dial 911 in case of an emergency. "Help is only but a call away, however many people simply are not able to make that call. Our partnership with Assemblywoman Friscia will allow us to easily remove a minor but important obstacle that prevents maximum safety in our community," says James Sung, President of Cellular Fashions. The donated phones with a market value of $20,000 were collected through all of Cellular Fashions’ stores through donations from all over New Jersey. "We are extremely grateful for the help of the Fanwood Police Department, EDS Global Community Affairs, and all the private residents whom contributed and continue to contribute to the ongoing donation drive." To show support for the program, local chambers of commerce: Middlesex County, Edison, and the New Jersey Chinese-American Chamber of Commerce, will be on site to witness the result of the first of many to come successful donation drives, as well as the ribbon cutting ceremony for Cellular Fashions’ newest store opening. Volunteers wanting to collect, distribute, or donate used cellular phones may contact Assemblywoman Arline Friscia’s office at 732-634-2526 or by simply visiting any of four Cellular Fashions (www.cellularfashions.com) stores in Middlesex County. All Senior Citizens, Disabled Citizens, and Victims of Domestic Violence whom may not normally have access to a cellular phone may obtain an emergency phone through Assemblywoman Friscia’s office free of charge. Members of the media are invited to interview donation drive principals and photograph the phone donations at Cellular Fashions, 1 Lincoln Hwy, Edison, NJ 08820 on May 14th at 1 pm.
