NEW ORLEANS, La., Jan. 16, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- While most New Orleanians have been focused on LSU and Saints football, one local resident has put football aside for the moment to help a family in need. Devoting a portion of his company's time and resources through the recent Christmas holidays and new year, Ciro Pennino, owner of Trinity Electric, LLC is helping one local couple finally get back into their home by providing complete electrical rewiring services and making the home ready to pass city code inspections. Displaced since Hurricane Katrina, the Smith family has been fighting an uphill battle to get back to the place they've always called home.

"There's a lot of talk about community, but I think small businesses have the resources to really help out more in our local community," said Pennino. A certified Master Electrician with over 15 years experience, Pennino said it's often easier to write a check than to give of your time.

"When I met Mr. and Mrs. Smith I could discern a real need. They were real genuine people that I just felt compelled to help. They've been displaced since Katrina. It's a real sad story. A lot of us have moved on since Katrina, however they've been trying to get in their home. They also have aluminum wiring that they've had some problems with. So we're here to be a blessing to them and try to get them back into their house."

Ronell and Sylvia Smith were displaced from New Orleans and stayed with friends in Albany, Georgia after the storm. While they've been working their way back home since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a bout of illness and lay-offs delayed their progress in renovating their home.

"A lot of times we could do things for ourselves," Ronell Smith shared. "We used to do everything. But now we've gotten a little older and we've slowed down and things are not as easy as they used to be. We knew we were out of our league trying to get something like this done. We needed to get someone who could get it done and trust God."

Pennino, an aluminum wiring specialist, seemed to fit the bill as he regularly consults homeowners on their options to eliminate electrical issues caused by aluminum wiring.

While aluminum wiring is not the only reason Pennino ends up on service calls, he believes homeowners are foregoing routine maintenance far too often. "The Safety Foundation International recommends a full blown safety inspection for any home that's 40 years old, that's had a major renovation, that's changing hands from one owner to the next, or has had a major appliance added." When summing up the number of houses that fall into at least one of these categories, Pennino says almost every homeowner is in need of a routine safety inspection.

"Our goal is to keep families and businesses safe," Pennino revealed. "At the end of the day, my company is about safety and the community and we're blessed because of it."

Trinity Electric is a family owned and operated Christian company based in the greater New Orleans metropolitan area. Goldman Sachs recently selected Trinity Electric, LLC to participate in its 10,000 Small Businesses initiative in the metro-New Orleans area. Small business owners accepted into the program study accounting, human resources, negotiation, and marketing and gain access to practical business and management education, potential capital to expand, business and alumni support services.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Jan. 16, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- According to The Futon Shop, conventional mattresses are very likely to contain chemicals, some potentially toxic to humans and/or harmful to the environment. Most of these chemical compounds have a cloud surrounding the information on the possible harms they can cause. The way to go green is to choose a mattress with fewer chemicals or no chemicals. The ideal mattress would have low VOCs, no PBDEs, no formaldehyde, and no phthalates.

But what are these chemicals and how do they affect the environment and you?

VOCs:

(VOCs) Volatile organic compounds are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. Most mattresses contain considerable amounts of synthetic and chemical-based foams (polyurethane), plastics and artificial fibers, and most box springs are made with chemically treated wood and chemical adhesives. In fact, almost every mattress type contains at least some polyurethane foam components. A good choice to be free of VOCs is a chemically free 100 percent pure Dunlop Latex mattress.

PBDEs:

Polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) are major components of commercial formulations often used as flame retardants in furniture foam. There is growing evidence that PBDEs persist in the environment and accumulate in living organisms, as well as toxicological testing that indicates these chemicals may cause liver toxicity, thyroid toxicity, and neurodevelopmental toxicity. Even though PBDEs are in the process of being banned from use, you can be sure that any older mattress is sure to contain them. If you sleep on an old mattress it is time to upgrade with a USDA certified Organic cotton mattress.

Formaldehyde:

Formaldehyde, a colorless, pungent-smelling gas, can cause watery eyes, burning sensations in the eyes and throat, nausea, and difficulty in breathing in some humans exposed at elevated levels (above 0.1 parts per million). High concentrations may trigger attacks in people with asthma. It has also been shown to cause cancer in animals and may cause cancer in humans. Health effects include eye, nose, and throat irritation; wheezing and coughing; fatigue; skin rash; severe allergic reactions. Formaldehyde is typically used to make adhesives that hold mattresses together.

Phthalates:

Phthalates are animal carcinogens and can cause fetal death, malformations, and reproductive toxicity in laboratory animals. Children may be at higher risk of adverse effects of phthalates because of anticipated higher exposures during a time of developmental and physiologic immaturity. Phthalates are not covalently bound to the plastic matrix and leach out of PVC. The Vinyl/PVC surface of a typical baby mattress consists of 30 percent phthalates that can leach out into your child's crib. Why risk your child's life on anything but an organic cotton baby crib mattress.

What is Offgassing?

Polyurethane foam is the number one ingredient in traditional mattresses today. Understanding the dangers from off gassing is why so many Americans are now purchasing organic mattresses. Off gassing from polyurethane foam, releases many harmful petroleum chemicals. These chemicals in mattresses release hydrocarbons that evaporate into the air we breathe throughout a mattress' lifetime. These hydrocarbons are powerful carcinogenic chemicals, attacking and severely damaging the immune and nervous systems of adults and children.

So where can you get a mattress that is chemical free?

The Futon Shop manufactures natural organic futon mattresses and green futon mattresses by combining the most pure and natural elements inside their organic futons to build the most comfortable and natural organic mattresses, sofa bed mattresses and futon mattresses. USDA certified Organic cotton futon mattresses, American grown long crimp Virgin Wool mattresses, chemically free 100 percent pure Dunlop Latex mattresses and beds, VOC free soy-based foam futon mattresses (CertiPUR-US certified), GOTS certified Organic cotton mattress pad protectors, and all their inner springs bed mattresses are made from recycled steel right here in the U.S. They are also a proud founding member of the Sustainable Furniture Council and a member of the Organic Trade Association. They have been manufacturing American made natural and organic mattresses for over 30 years and have over 2 million happy customers.

In accordance with Federal law, The Futon Shop does use a borate to ensure all mattresses are fire retardant. They will gladly omit the Borate in any mattress purchase order with a note from your doctor or chiropractor.
PLAINVILLE, Conn., Jan. 9, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Loureiro Engineering Associates, Inc. is carefully adhering to its strategic growth plan in the area of geographic expansion of services. This week it announced a new office location in Rockford, MA that will be managed by new hire, Samuel W. Butcher, LSP, LEP, PG, LEED-AP, vice president at Loureiro Engineering.

Butcher brings nearly 20 years of experience to the table. Prior to joining Loureiro Engineering, he was senior vice president of operations at a Massachusetts-based environmental consulting firm.

In his new role at Loureiro, he will work as a Licensed Site Professional. Responsibilities include managing and overseeing assessment and remediation of contaminated sites in Massachusetts in accordance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP).

His particular interest and expertise is in the cleanup and redevelopment of underutilized contaminated properties. As a result, he will help clients to understand their responsibilities pertaining to the MCP in these areas.

Additionally, Butcher is a professional geologist and LEED-AP, credentials which complement his ability to provide assessment and remediation services to clients.

"Butcher shares the same ideals and values as Loureiro Engineering does when it comes to customer service," says Brian Cutler, senior vice president of Loureiro Engineering. "Customer service is paramount in his work ethic."

Finally, Butcher provides litigation support services and environmental consulting services across other regulatory programs including wetlands and underground storage tanks. He is also responsible for business development across a wide spectrum of Loureiro Engineering's service offerings.

A member of the Town of Duxbury Conservation Commission which regulates activities in accordance with the state and local wetland bylaws and regulations, he is well positioned to lead this new office to overwhelming success.

"Having an office in the Boston metropolitan area now allows us to service areas that were beyond our reach before," says Cutler. "Mainly, the Rockland office addresses a gap in service area coverage between Merrimack, NH and Wakefield, RI. "We are excited to have Butcher on board to oversee this new location; we have aggressive marketing and growth plans on the horizon."
RENO, Nev., Jan. 5, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Smart Fog, Inc. announced this week that its top seller - a commercial and industrial humidifier - the ES100 - is 90 percent more energy efficient that steam for building and duct-mount applications.

"Lately, we've received a great amount of feedback from customers and have learned that the energy efficiency numbers are even higher than originally calculated," explains Ido Goldstein, director at Smart Fog®.

And, while energy efficiency is a top benefit, the ES100 brings a host of others to the table. For instance, this humidification system is maintenance free and has the ability to disinfect and sanitize so no other system is needed.

"We also have the shortest lead time in the industry," says Goldstein. "Our clients are up and running in less than a week."

The ES100 is designed for commercial and industrial use in more than 50 different industries. Some top categories include clean rooms, wineries, data centers, HVAC/buildings and laboratories, printing environments, greenhouses and more.

So, what else makes the ES100 so special? The secret lies in the small droplet size of the water (4.2 micron) and the engineered spacing between the air and water. Smart Fog has succeeded in manipulating the droplet size to be the smallest in the industry. Water evaporates only from the droplet's surface.

If the droplet's surface area, in relation to the volume of water is decreased, then the evaporation efficiency is increased. The smaller the droplet size, the longer it can stay airborne. Therefore, a smaller droplet size leads to faster and more efficient water evaporation. In fact, Smart Fog has achieved a 100 percent evaporation rate which equals 100 percent water efficiency.

Installation is easy with simple, step-by-step instructions. And, customer service support is always available by phone or e-mail.

"Our clients' success is what makes us successful," adds Goldstein. "We work with our clients on a project-by-project basis to ensure that they get exactly what they need. There is no such thing as one size fits all."

About SmartFog:
In business since 1980, Smart Fog® Inc. is the recognized world leader in the industrial and commercial humidification systems industry. And, all products are manufactured in the U.S.
WASHINGTON D.C., Nov. 21, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Conservatory Craftsmen is honored to have been chosen to work on the Hill Center project with Bell Architects to restore the Old Naval Hospital on Capitol Hill.

"The Old Naval Hospital had fallen into a state of disrepair," says Jim Hewitt of Conservatory Craftsmen. "Once considered one of the most valuable assets on the Hill, the building had become one of the district's most endangered historic places."

As a result, in 2000, a group of concerned Hill residents banded together to save the Old Naval Hospital and restore it to its original splendor. Working with Bell Architects, a restoration plan was adopted that would completely restore the building along with the grounds and carriage house.

Bell Architects had worked with conservatory historian and craftsman, Hewitt, on previous projects and was familiar with his penchant for authenticity. So, he was called in to join forces on the project.

"Jim is a true, old-school conservatory craftsman who understands the history of conservatories and their design periods," says T. David Bell. "His ability to grasp the design nuances of this restoration was never in doubt."

Completed in 1866, the Old Naval Hospital was a 50-bed facility designed to serve seamen serving on the Potomac River and its tributaries. Later, it would serve many purposes such as a Hospital Corp Training Center and an Old Soldiers Home. By 1998, the main building stood vacant, while the carriage house was rented as an administrative office.

Redesigning a conservatory for the carriage house at the old naval hospital is a great honor for Hewitt and his crew.

"Using our knowledge of conservatory history and design is what we live for," explains Hewitt. "While other companies have gone the route of cheap kits and materials, we've stayed true to the art of building authentic conservatories and it's nice to be recognized for that craft."

Conservatory Craftsmen was given access to archived photos of the original conservatory. From those visuals and evidence of the original structure left behind on the carriage house, they designed an authentic, modern era conservatory that brings back its original charm with the incorporation of modern, practical features such as low E tempered glass for insulation and safety.

"It's an honor to be called in on a historic project like the Hill Center," says Hewitt. "Being able to play a small part in the mission of the Hill Center is a dream. This place will be a historical hub to educate and draw people together."
