MANCHESTER, Vt., Nov. 4, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CONIX Systems, Inc. (CONIX), a leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry, and Trustmark National Bank (Trustmark) have completed the bank's implementation of Dupe Detective™, the payments industry's leading Day 1, multi-channel duplicate payment product.

Trustmark is a subsidiary of Trustmark Corporation (TRMK), a diversified financial services company with $9.6 billion in assets and 150 branch locations in Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. Trustmark selected the CONIX duplicate detection solution in Q1 2011.

"Having a duplicate item detection system was a critical element of Trustmark's strategy to embrace centralized item capture and processing remote branch capture through image technology, extending the benefits out to our customers. We were interested in working with a proven solution - which is where CONIX Systems' Dupe Detective really distinguished itself during our due diligence," said Harold Winborne, First Vice President, Trustmark National Bank.

"Implementing a new payment processing element is not on anyone's list of favorite undertakings," Winborne said. "However, the people at CONIX Systems made this process smoother and we have 'gone live' more quickly and with far less hassle than I thought possible."

"One of the many advantages of Dupe Detective is that it is unparalleled in effectively addressing the problem of 'false positives.' Many banks and processors have delayed mission-critical decisions about duplicate payments detection based on this issue," said CONIX's Managing Director of Sales, Steve Fortson. "Despite the risks and losses caused when a duplicate item posts to an account, the threat of creating and managing false positives with their legacy systems and manual procedures is understandably overwhelming."

CONIX Systems' Dupe Detective X9 Inspector feature and the ability to integrate with outgoing return systems virtually eliminates re-presented returns, which is the most common source of false suspects. It also provides business rules and filters for automatically managing other sources.

Among the capabilities Trustmark has utilized through Dupe Detective:

* Expedited suspect decisioning - Its Suspect Review enables operators to easily determine whether the suspect is truly a duplicate payment by providing the data and images of all matched payments. Item navigation in Suspect Review allows operators to go to specific items based on dollar amount, enabling them to prioritize high-dollar items.

* Streamlined business-rules driven workflow - Automates duplicate payment segmentation by depositor, depositor group, account, payment channel or type, payment amount, and other key criteria via its powerful, menu-driven business rules engine.

* Legacy systems integration for final resolution - Integrates with the bank's payment systems to expedite new payment processing.

* Eliminates false positives - Flexible business rules, filters, the X9 Inspector feature, and integration with outgoing returns systems provide automatic handling of the major sources of false positives.

* Configurable partitions - Item history for searching for duplicates can be extended to almost three years.

Trustmark's Winborne anticipates the following operating benefits by implementing Dupe Detective:
* Catching duplicate items on the front end, prior to posting;
* Ensuring payment return decisions are correct; and
* Adjusting cash letters accurately.
MANCHESTER, Vt. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CONIX Systems, Inc., (CONIX) announces the availability of its Dupe Detective™ X9 Inspector™ feature, providing banks and payments processing providers a proven duplicate detection solution that eliminates the most common source of false suspects. X9 Inspector enables payments processing operations to minimize the number of payments falsely identified as duplicate suspects by tracking the returned status of the payment and filtering re-presented returned items from duplicate processing.

"The problem of 'false positives' became a Conix priority because we knew of banks and processors that were delaying decisions about duplicate payments detection," said CONIX's Managing Director of Sales, Steve Fortson. "Despite the risks and losses caused when a duplicate item posts to an account, the threat of creating and managing false positives with their legacy systems and manual procedures was understandably overwhelming."

While "paying banks" have the option of providing updates to Dupe Detective from their outgoing returns system, this is not feasible for third party payment providers, such as banks processing correspondent cashletters or on-us items for other banks. Dupe Detective X9 Inspector solves this problem by automatically processing the X9 endorsement addendum records in the X9 files to identify the returned/re-presented status of incoming payments.

"Dupe Detective X9 Inspector is a significant addition to the family of payment processing solutions that Conix has been building since 2006, each of which has quietly achieved implicit industry standard status," said CONIX's CEO, Mike Charles. "With each of its new offerings, Conix has been ahead of the market in anticipating emerging payments options and their unanticipated consequences."

A leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry, CONIX is a proven innovator with its Dupe Detective, the duplicate detection solution used by more top 25 U.S. banks.

"Clearly, banks and payment processors understand that duplicates in the payments stream represent a multi-faceted threat, and consider their Day 1 identification as both a customer service priority and a fraud detection imperative," said Fortson. "Some banks have hesitated to solve the duplicate payment dilemma because of the impact of 'false positives.'"

"Conix is helping banks and payment processors succeed in an era of proliferating payments options, including image item exchange, remote deposit capture, electronic transactions, and mobile device initiated transactions," said Charles. "It has been our experience that once a bank or other payment processing operation realizes the benefits of Dupe Detective, they can't recall how they ever operated without it. We've had success story after success story, and we are happy to share them with you."

According to Charles, CONIX is uniquely qualified to intercept duplicates in Day 1 while keeping pace with high-volume Day 1 payment processing systems. CONIX has been providing Day 1 payments processing software and services to the top-tier financial institutions and payments processors for nearly two decades, developing and delivering to the industry server-based solutions that are unsurpassed in performance and quality.

"Conix leads with its solutions because we listen closely to our customers," he added.
MANCHESTER, Vt., March 1 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CONIX Systems, Inc. (CONIX), a leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry, has signed Trustmark National Bank (Trustmark) for Dupe Detective™, the payments industry's leading Day 1, multi-channel duplicate payment product. Dupe Detective enables institutions and processors to resolve duplicate payments prior to posting and sending transit work for collection, reducing their research and adjustments caseload while ensuring that account holders are never affected.

Trustmark is a subsidiary of Trustmark Corporation (NASDAQ:TRMK), a diversified financial services company with $9.6 billion in assets that provides banking, wealth management and insurance solutions. With 150 branch locations in Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, Trustmark began implementation of its check clearing and remote branch capture processes more than six years ago when Check 21 became effective.

"Early on, Trustmark realized the significant benefits of centralized item capture and processing remote branch capture through image technology," said Harold Winborne, First Vice President, Trustmark National Bank. "Since implementing remote branch capture throughout our four-state operation two years ago, we've eliminated air transportation and, even more significantly, reduced our courier costs."

"The single biggest issue related to image processing has been the problem of duplicates. In fact, we almost immediately realized the need for a mechanism to identify duplicate transactions," said Winborne. "Trustmark is entirely image-based, so even a small percentage of dupes represents a large number in a high-volume environment."

According to Winborne, Trustmark's yearlong research and due diligence led it to select Dupe Detective from CONIX Systems.

"We chose Dupe Detective primarily due to the fact that it matched our needs profile and is immediately available; we were also impressed by positive feedback on the solution from its other customers," he said. "CONIX Systems has a reputation for standing behind its products and we believe this partnership will benefit Trustmark in the future."

Trustmark expects the following operating benefits by implementing Dupe Detective:
• Catching duplicate items on the front end, prior to posting;
• Ensuring payment return decisions are correct; and
• Adjusting cash letters accurately.

"Trustmark National Bank's selection of Dupe Detective supports its commitment to reducing operating costs on its expanding deposit base and focusing on customer loyalty," said CONIX's Managing Director of Sales, Steve Fortson. "Duplicate exception items, whether by error or fraud, are an unintended consequence of remote deposit capture and the rising popularity of mobile capture will intensify the issue.

"Because of Dupe Detective's broad capabilities in handling all forms of payments, the bank's risks are greatly reduced," Fortson added.

 MANCHESTER, Vt., Dec. 21 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- After hunkering down throughout 2010 recovering from a sobering 2009, banks will resume technology investments in 2011, in part with an eye toward meeting new demands on their payments operations, according to CONIX Systems, Inc. (CONIX). A leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry, CONIX believes banks need to prepare for an overall increase in debit transactions, mobile payments options, and branch item capture, and the demands they will place on processing operations.

"Banks being on more stable ground clearly has set the stage for a period of strategic business redistribution in the industry. As a result, banks have not been spending as they may have wished on operations technology," according to CONIX's CEO, Mike Charles. "Even while banks have been restrained on technology investment for the last 18 - 24 months, technology development has continued to advance new types of payment options, including mobile payment innovations such as consumer check image deposits and contactless payments via credit and debit card chips embedded in Smartphone devices."

"Banks are on the frontline as payment preference shifts away from credit card to debit account transactions," observes CONIX's Managing Director, Sales Steve Fortson. "The 2010 Federal Reserve Payments Study released earlier this month documents what our solutions have anticipated - a marked increase in payment options and the bank's ability to integrate various payment channels."

Debit account transactions, including mobile payments made via debit-linked Smartphone devices, present to banks in a format currently supported by the banks' item processing platform. The new volume of debit transactions in item processing will create a natural, if entirely unintended consequence, of pumping up opportunities for fraud and duplicate items in all channels.

"Since technology projects favored for attention will include building out remote deposit capture and mobile payments applications, banks must also renew their investments in fraud prevention and acceleration of exception processing," according to Charles.

"Merchant capture has gained a head of steam and will continue to gain adoption, clearing the way for banks and merchants alike to benefit from efficiencies in the payment stream," said Fortson. "For banks, one of the real benefits is the decentralization of item processing operations. Commercial payments never shifted from checks, which drove the demand for RDC and banks' deployment of branch item capture."

Fortson concludes, "The necessity for processors to become more efficient will pique interest in ASP models that combine fraud detection, duplicate detection and IRD printing into a total processing utility that would share interbank payments information while preventing large investments of capital in software and hardware. These kinds of models could evolve into a self-policing, intelligence-gathering payment clearinghouse environment that could share interbank payments information."
MANCHESTER, Vt., Aug. 23 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CONIX Systems Inc., a leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry, was selected by Symcor Inc., a leading North American financial processing company, to provide its Enterprise IRD (EIRD™) solution - a system designed to print IRD documents from X9.37 files.

Using CONIX Systems' iCONIX™ infrastructure, EIRD enables Symcor to convert X9.37 files into IRDs for various applications that still require printed representations of the payment to be presented. Applications include paper check exchange, statement enclosures, and others.

"We are delighted to be able to partner with Symcor as they bring valuable payments processing technology to the U.S. market," said Frank Stokes, president of technology, CONIX Systems. "Symcor selected CONIX Systems' EIRD solution because it can print large volumes of IRD documents reliably and accurately. EIRD will provide Symcor with the flexibility to furnish either electronic representations of the payment or a printed version to their customers."

Peg Johnson, Vice President, Image Capture Services, Symcor U.S., said, "We required a system with high-volume IRD printing capability. Our largest U.S. customer needed the ability to produce a large volume of statement enclosures daily." Johnson noted that CONIX's EIRD solution provides the features Symcor needs and has a proven track record of providing highly reliable IRD printing for very large volumes. She added, "We were especially pleased with CONIX's ahead-of-schedule delivery and professional services that helped our team achieve the delivery date."

Stokes added, "The demands on an IRD printing system can be quite significant. EIRD processes higher volumes than any other IRD print solution in the industry. I believe this was a key reason why Symcor chose to partner with CONIX."
MANCHESTER, Vt., July 22 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Franks Stokes, president of technology for CONIX Systems, Inc. (CONIX), a leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry and pioneer in the acceleration of exception processing, agrees with the Obama Administration that reducing systemic drains on the Federal budget by better policing benefits and other types of payments to eliminate "improper payments" will be a productive government debt reduction strategy. In fact, he's been saying the same thing to financial institutions since 2008 when he spoke with Bank Technology News about the problems presented by duplicate checks to the banks' image-enabled payment processing operations.

Signed into effect by President Obama today, the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act targets deficit reduction by ending wasteful spending resulting from payments made in the wrong amount, to the wrong person, or for the wrong reason. In his remarks today, President Obama referred to a figure of $110 billion worth of "improper payments" made in 2009. Obama's goal is to halve that amount to $50 billion by 2012 through increased audits and penalties.

"Improper payments have been a worsening hemorrhage for the Federal government for longer than a decade," said Stokes. "Passage of the Improper Payment Information Act of 2002 was an early signal that the costs were headed even higher. Targeting a $110 billion source of government waste makes sense."

Stokes added, "It is equally important that banks and payment processors look at the costs and risks created by the financial system's own 'improper payments' dilemma presented by the marked increase in exception items within the payment stream. By this, I mean that there has been a notable increase in the level of fraud and systemic error in the payment processing environment as a whole," said Stokes, "We talk about it all the time with our customers. Our primary focus as a company is to identify and resolve these issues."

Recently, CONIX Systems, Data Support Services, Symcor Inc. and five banks (including BB&T, RBC, Bank of the West, Marshall & Isley, and Bank of Oklahoma) decided to combine their resources and experience to advance the development of a "transformational" payments processing capability for banks and the payment processing industry.

"Today's payment processing is more complex and prone to risk than commonly understood, primarily because of the influx of image exchange and new payment types - such as check images through remote deposit capture, ACH, and debit card transactions," Stokes further explained.

"These multiple payment types bring with them unique unintended repercussions, especially where the opportunity for error and fraud are concerned. The Social Security Administration's decision to stop issuing paper checks in 2013 is a great example of the pressure that volume and proliferation of payment types are creating. Left unaddressed," added Stokes, "payments processing is destined to be a source of significant cost and risk for banks, the government, the marketplace in general, and especially for the consumer/taxpayer."
MANCHESTER, Vt., July 9 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Xcept Steering Committee, organized in the first quarter of 2010 by CONIX Systems, Inc., a leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry and a pioneer in the creation of post-Check 21 exception management tools, has added five members representing the Bank of Oklahoma, Bank of the West, Marshall and Isley, and BB&T.

Formed in March 2010, the steering committee will guide features and functionality that ensure the development of a Day 1 exceptions processing solution for the real world challenges of banks and payment processors. Founding members of the steering committee include: Mike Boland, senior vice president of operations at RBC; Alice Lyon, vice president in operations at BB&T; Symcor Inc. vice president Cyndi Rhodes; Barbara Stallings, senior vice president of fraud at RBC; and Debbie Whitt, vice president in operations at BB&T.

The new committee members include BB&T senior vice president Teresa Winstead; Bank of the West senior vice president Barbara Hoffert and vice president Flavia Krone; Marshall and Isley Corp. payment services product manager Jeff Stapleton, and Bank of Oklahoma associate vice president Regan Steyl.

"As banks offer more ways for payments to be presented, the opportunity for a payment to become an exception increases drastically," said Frank Stokes, president of technology, CONIX Systems. "In light of this challenge, banks and payment processors are re-inventing their exception processes to accommodate the new return and settlement time frames, as well as the additional exception volume and types accompanying these payment options. It's a tremendous advantage for a company like CONIX Systems to receive guidance from customers to guide our development. With their help, we have a greater opportunity to create a product that hits the mark."

"Migrating Day 2 processing into a Day 1 space really benefits and protects both the paying and depositing institutions," says Cyndi Rhodes, operations manager and Day 2 product manager at Symcor, USA. "By accelerating the exception and recovery process, banks come closer to realizing real-time account updates, enabling them to provide better customer service and reduce risk."

"Exception items compromise customer accounts and disrupt the payment processing work flow, creating operational risk for high-volume financial institutions," said Bank of Oklahoma associate vice president Regan Steyl. "Participating in the Xcept Steering Committee reflects Bank of Oklahoma's commitment to responsive customer service and responsible banking practices."
MANCHESTER, Vt., June 17 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CONIX Systems, Inc. (CONIX), a leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry and pioneer in the acceleration of exception processing and Data Support Systems (DSS), a leading provider of image-based back office payment processing solutions, have formed a partnership to accelerate exception processing across the banking industry.

Under this partnership, DSS and CONIX will deliver a comprehensive end-to-end Day 1 exception solution by seamlessly integrating CONIX's Xcept and Dupe Detective products with the DSS TRIPS Suite for image-based back office transactions. The integrated solution will provide a common decision engine for all exceptions.

"Exception processing is the elephant in the room as banking institutions evaluate their systemic risk," said Frank Stokes, president of technology, CONIX Systems. "A CONIX - DSS joint problem-solving partnership for exception processing is a natural fit. We possess complementary skills to co-develop an integrated solution."

The combined impact of image exchange, remote deposit capture, and the emergence of new electronic payment channels has increased exception volumes and exception types. Additionally, this has created new issues that are costly to resolve, threaten customer loyalty, and carry long-term risk for financial institutions. When exception items are identified and returned in a Day 1 timeframe, their impact on the institution is contained and transparent to account holders.

"Accelerating exceptions processing to Day 1 should be a priority, not just for banks but for the financial industry at large," said Carl Bortol, president and founder of DSS. "The TRIPS Suite leads the industry in processing exception and return items as early as customers' infrastructures allow. Extending our integration with CONIX Systems' Xcept and Dupe Detective products will enable banks to shift more of their typical payment processing exception functions from Day 2 to Day 1, including exceptions related to fraud, error, and duplication."

Electronic payments have substantially shortened return times, making Day 1 detection even more important to prevent and stem losses from fraud. Migrating exceptions and returns to a Day 1 timeframe will provide a more expedited collection and recovery process that will mitigate financial institutions' risk and exposure.

CONIX Systems and DSS have a tradition of collaboration dating to the development of CONIX's Dupe Detective, a system that protects both financial institutions and customer accounts from double postings of payments. Dupe Detective is already in place in such prominent financial institutions as BB&T Corporation and Bank of the West.
MANCHESTER, Vt., June 4 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Banks that focus on reducing the impact of exception items in their payment processing operations by moving Day 2 processes to Day 1 can achieve decreased costs, more effective risk management, and improvements in auditory compliance, according to CONIX Systems, Inc., which developed content for the upcoming June 8 BAI webinar entitled, "Acceleration of Exception Payment Processing: 'The Next Big Thing.'"

CONIX Systems, a leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry and a pioneer in the acceleration of exception processing, is organizing the webinar as a service to the industry.

Key contributors include noted attorney and bank payments expert Paul Carrubba, Data Support Systems President and Founder Carl Bortol, BB&T payments executive Tim Dillow, and Symcor payments processing professional Cyndi Rhodes. The webinar will cover the Current Post-Check 21 Payments Environment, the Benefits of Accelerated Exception Processing, a phased approach to Accelerated Exception Processing, and a view of the Future of Exception Processing. Tina Ward, CONIX Systems product specialist and a 15-year payment processing solutions veteran, will moderate the discussion.

"Payment exception items have been a nuisance for generations of bankers, regardless of whether they are the result of fraud, individual error, or the outcome of an institution's systemic malfunction," said Frank Stokes, president of technology, CONIX Systems. "However, as check images enter the payments stream in exponentially greater volumes and payment forms proliferate, exception processing is becoming an area of elevated concern."

"Exception processing acceleration should take center stage as an opportunity for transformational improvement to banking and payment processing," added Stokes.

Webinar attendees will learn:
• Immediate and long-term opportunities achieved by accelerated exception payments;
• Benefits of implementing accelerated exception payments, including the more effective deployment of operation staff, effective use of return processing windows, and accelerated clearing and fraud identification through an industry-wide collaboration to share information.

Additional information regarding the webinar is available through BAI at www.bai.org/events/webinars/details.aspx?ec=0165&et=webinars.
MANCHESTER, Vt., May 27 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- An upcoming June 8 BAI webinar entitled, "Acceleration of Exception Payment Processing: 'The Next Big Thing,'" will feature commentary by noted attorney and bank payments expert Paul Carrubba, BB&T payments executive Tim Dillow, and Data Support Systems President and Founder Carl Bortol. CONIX Systems, Inc., a leading international provider of payment processing solutions to the financial services industry and a pioneer in the creation of post-Check 21 exception management tools, is organizing the webinar as a service to the industry.

Moderating the webinar will be Tina Ward, CONIX Systems product specialist and a 15-year payment processing solutions veteran.

"There is a growing interest among financial institutions and payment processors in accelerating Day 2 processes," said Frank Stokes, president of technology, CONIX Systems. "By organizing and developing content for this webinar, CONIX Systems is working in tandem with BAI to provide an open forum for examining relevant issues, sharing industry feedback, and discussing more efficient and effective exception processing."

Detecting and handling exception and fraud suspects early in the payment process is critical to realizing the benefits of the electronic, post-Check 21 payment environment. Payment exception items are typically detected when it is too late to recover the funds and too late to meet the return deadline, creating significant financial losses and reputational damage for banks. In this webinar, noted experts will evaluate the need for industry and operational process changes in order to make accelerated exception processing a reality, including immediate opportunities to improve customer service and protection, and reduce fraud risk.

CONIX Systems leads the payments processing industry in the development of solutions built to handle the emerging challenges of check images and ACH payments. Its Xcept system accelerates exception processing by providing a central point for efficiently detecting and routing exception payments for Day 1 resolution. Resolution of exceptions in Day 1 enables identification of potential losses before a bank, its customers, or its banking partners are adversely affected.

Webinar attendees will learn:
• Immediate and long-term opportunities for offering accelerated exception payments;
• Benefits for offering accelerated exception payments, including the more effective deployment of operation staff, effective use of return processing windows, and accelerated clearing and fraud identification through an industry-wide collaboration to share information.
