PROVIDENCE, R.I., July 28 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The New England School of Alternative Horticultural Studies, a New England-based medical marijuana training center, today announced the September 2010 launch of its Basic Medical Marijuana training class in Warwick, Rhode Island, the first professional medical marijuana training class in the north-eastern United States.

Rhode Island State law allows registered patients or their caregivers to legally set up an indoor grow with a certain number of marijuana plants for personal medical purposes. Unlike similar schools in California and Colorado, the New England School of Alterative Horticultural Studies operates in the north-eastern USA and offers professional medical marijuana training at a fraction of what the cost would be for a north-eastern USA based student.

"Traditionally, someone who lives in the New England area and wants to take this type of MMJ training would have to travel to California or Colorado at their own expense. This is in addition to the tuition costs which make the total cost for these classes quite steep for folks in the north-east United States," said the school founder, Luis Hernandez. "Now, everyone here in the north-east has access to professional medical marijuana training right in their own back yard."

Another unique feature of this school is its strong sense of social responsibility. No less than 20% of all class proceeds are donated directly to causes such as AIDS & Cancer research, cannabis law reform, and other worthwhile patient advocacy programs. As stated by Hernandez himself: "Environmental and social responsibility are core values which we take very seriously around here." The school also extends special discounts to registered patients who cannot afford the full class tuition.

Yet another distinction for the school is having incorporated state law, fire and electrical safety, ethics, confidentiality and professional conduct to the curriculum in addition to the horticultural aspect of a medical marijuana training class.
About the New England School of Alternative Horticultural Studies:
The New England School of Alternative Horticultural Studies is the first vocational training institution in the New England area offering professional medical marijuana training to qualified patients, caregivers and aspiring medical marijuana professionals with operations in Rhode Island, Maine and Vermont. The school was founded by Luis Hernandez in 2010 to address the lack of professional cannabis education sources in the north-east United States.

WARWICK, R.I., March 19 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- EduTyping, a new and innovative keyboarding software for schools, is rewriting the rules for students and teachers' keyboarding classrooms. EduTyping requires no textbooks or paper; it's strictly online technology that provides students with the flexibility of doing assignments at school or home by simply logging in with a user name and password.

"This software is ideal for middle and high school students and gives teachers complete online management of their students, including access to grades in real time," says Michael Gecawich, president, B.E. Publishing, and also a former keyboarding instructor. "In addition, teachers have the ability to control the length of their keyboarding courses."

This revolutionary keyboarding software that can be accessed from school or at home, offers exciting features for educators and students that include: automatic grading; timed-writing tests; typing games; teen and tween customized lessons; and a sleek keyboarding tutorial.

Keyboarding lessons are no longer rote and boring. Cool categories such as the practice library and news headline section, provide students with interesting articles that are fun to read, type and relate to their age/grade level. Students can also practice typing news articles that are making headlines relevant to their age group, keeping them engaged.

"This is a fantastic program. It really changes the game with the current event typing practices, problem keys and timed writings," says Sarah Daugherty, Cottonwood Creek Elementary School. "We have been looking for some time for a program that could be done outside of school with students."

EduTyping works with PC, Mac, Linux and all major Internet browsers and it follows the keyboarding standards of the National Business Education Association (NBEA).

A free 30-day trial is offered; to learn more, visit: www.edutyping.com.

WARWICK, R.I., Jan. 22 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- "Warwick Neck - A Collection of Memories," edited by Bill Nixon, is a visually stunning, 400-page book with over 800 photographs; it will take the reader back in time through a collection of newspaper articles, photos, and stories about a colorful community that sits on the edge of Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island.

Readers will delight in stories about the early days of Roger Williams' Providence Plantation right up to tales of modern times.

Warwick Neck has played a fascinating role in the history of Rhode Island due to its strategic, bay location. Founded in 1642, Warwick Neck is no stranger to adventure. From the dark days of the slave trade to rum-running during prohibition, Warwick Neck has earned its place in history. Due to its protected shoreline, the community offered smugglers a safe haven; today, it has evolved into a major center for pleasure boating.

In the mid 1800's and for the next 150 years, Warwick Neck hosted one of the largest, privately-owned amusement parks in the country - Rocky Point. Children and adults, as well as presidents and celebrities, tasted their world-famous clam chowder, reveled on the beaches and enjoyed exciting park rides.

Further steeped in history, the first presidential telephone call was made by Alexander Graham Bell to President Rutherford B. Hayes, who was visiting Rocky Point.

Due to Rocky Point's reputation as a recreational paradise, Warwick Neck was served by railroad and steamships to deliver passengers from all over the region.

In the early 1900's, one of the nation's leading political figures, Senator Nelson Aldrich, built a stunning mansion on Warwick Neck that was reminiscent of some of the most luxurious estates in Newport, R.I.

While living there, Senator Aldrich consulted with presidents and powerful industry figures such as the Rockefeller and Roosevelt families. Today, the beautifully preserved Aldrich estate is owned by the Catholic Church which now houses a private school. The mansion also serves as a center for community conferences and meetings.

"Warwick Neck - A Collection of Memories," was published with the financial support of the Warwick Neck Improvement Association, Inc. (WNIA), a non-profit, community organization dedicated to improving life for the residents of Warwick Neck.

WNIA is also engaged in habitat restoration in the salt marshes of Warwick Cove, acts as an advocate for WNIA residents in the development of Rocky Point as a residential community, and works on an array of many other valuable projects.

This new work is a must read for history buffs and those who have experienced Warwick Neck and its colorful past; it is destined to become a family treasure.

Editorial note: there is no ISBN for this book. As of 2009, the original website for the book no longer appears to be online.
