Controversial 'Nude Britney Spears Giving Birth' Sculptor Daniel Edwards Featured on Send2Press Podcast
Published: Fri, 24 Mar 2006, 19:18:00 EDT
TORRANCE, CA (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Sculptor Daniel Edwards, who this week announced a controversial dedication "Nude Britney Spears Giving Birth" at Capla Kesting Fine Art in Brooklyn's Williamsburg gallery district, is one of many entertainment guests who have been interviewed on the Send2Press Podcast. The Podcast is hosted by PRSA and ASCAP member Christopher Simmons.
A nude Britney Spears on a bearskin rug while giving birth to her firstborn marks a "first" for Pro-Life. According to Edwards, pop-star Britney Spears is the "ideal" model for Pro-Life. His latest sculpture is the subject of a dedication at Capla Kesting Fine Art in what is proclaimed the first Pro-Life monument to birth, in April 2006.
Dedication of the life-sized statue celebrates the recent birth of Spears' baby boy, Sean, and applauds her decision of placing family before career. "A superstar at Britney's young age having a child is rare in today's celebrity culture. This dedication honors Britney for the rarity of her choice and bravery of her decision," said gallery co-director, Lincoln Capla. The dedication includes materials provided by Manhattan Right To Life Committee.
"Monument to Pro-Life" is on view April 7th thru 23rd with a reception for the dedication April 7th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Capla Kesting Fine Art, 121 Roebling St., Brooklyn, NY. Gallery hours are 1:00 - 6:00 pm Thursday thru Sunday, or by appointment. The gallery can be reached at www.caplakesting.com or by phone at (646) 932-5687.
The Podcast show is located at www.Send2Press.com/podcast/ and can be listened to "on-demand" in both RealAudio and MP3 formats, and subscribed to via iTunes, RSS/XML, or an Odeo Channel.
Edwards prior gallery show, which ran during September 2005, was called "The Ted Williams Memorial Display with Death Mask, from The Ben Affleck 2004 World Series Collection." The main element of the exhibit was Edwards' sculpture of a "death mask" of baseball great Ted Williams, depicting Williams as he now exists -- in a cryonic slumber. Williams' actual head is stored in a metal container filled with liquid nitrogen in Scottsdale, Arizona's Alcor Life Extension Foundation, which claims to be the most advanced cryonics service in the world. Edwards gained some notoriety for the exhibit because some mistakenly believed the death mask was a casting from the actual frozen head of Ted Williams.
Dan is a classically trained sculptor from New York's Graduate School of the Figurative Arts, and his notable public sculpture work includes The Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy Memorial in Indianapolis, of which groundbreaking ceremonies were performed by President Clinton and Senator Ted Kennedy. He also has works in the permanent collections of the National Art Museum of Sport in Indianapolis, the Las Vegas art museum, and the Indiana statehouse.
The Podcast show is hosted by Christopher Laird Simmons, a veteran journalist and contributor to numerous entertainment and technology publications, an award-winning photographer and digital artist, a musician who has composed soundtracks for two TV cable shows, and a highly regarded marketing technologist who has been interviewed by TrendWatch, PCworld, Entrepreneur, and many other national publications.
Simmons is also the author of the forthcoming Podcasting business and marketing book, "The Savvy Guide to Podcasting" (Indy-Tech Publishing, Nov. 2006) which covers the practical how-to aspects of developing content, the mechanics of recording and mastering, and optimization for the Web, as well as marketing and audience measurement and retention.
