The City of Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (MCRA) is a dependent special district created in 1996 by the Margate City Commission pursuant to Florida Statutes Chapter 163 Part III, “Community Redevelopment Act of 1969.” The MCRA operates pursuant to Florida Statutes Chapter 163 Part III, and also complies with requirements of Florida Statutes Chapter 189, Uniform Special District Accountability Act.

The MCRA plans and implements redevelopment and economic development activities within its district, as outlined in the adopted Community Redevelopment Plan.

Among the projects and activities outlined in the plan are streetscape beautification and infrastructure upgrades, façade and landscape improvement grants, small business assistance programs, assemblage of properties to create a city center in the vicinity of S.R. 7 and Margate Boulevard, park and recreation improvements, transportation amenities, economic development assistance, marketing and promotions, and elimination of slum and blighted conditions.

MARGATE, Fla., July 18, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — On July 12, 2016, the Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (MCRA) approved an agreement with South Florida’s New Urban Communities for development of a 36-acre mixed use town center at State Road 7 and Margate Boulevard. The plan will provide 968 apartment units, 100,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurants, an 80+ room hotel, and numerous civic uses–all within walking distance of each other.

MARGATE, Fla., Jan. 6, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (MCRA) is seeking qualified developers to develop all or a portion of a 36 acre future City Center site. Since 2003, the MCRA has engaged in assembling the properties surrounding the intersection of State Road 7 and Margate Boulevard (including the former Swap Shop) with the goal of creating a vibrant mixed use City Center which would be a destination for both City and Northwest Broward residents.
