SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 23 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — SecuGen is pleased to announce that the SDA04, an advanced single finger capture device, has been certified by the FBI as compliant with the U.S. Government’s FIPS 201/PIV requirements. FIPS 201 places stringent requirements on the image quality of fingerprint devices as established by the FBI’s Image Quality Specifications. The SDA04 is an OEM module consisting of a fingerprint sensor and processing board that can store and perform fast 1:N search on up to 10,000 users.

SecuGen FIPSIn addition, the SDA04 uses SecuGen’s NIST MINEX approved template extraction and matching algorithms. The result is a robust module that meets all of the relevant requirements for FIPS 201/PIV compliance. As with all SecuGen fingerprint devices, the SDA04 platen is made from a glass that is harder than window glass and is nearly scratch proof.

“We are very pleased to offer to our hardware partners the SDA04 OEM sensor that meets FBI specifications,” said Dan Riley, VP of engineering for SecuGen. Mr. Riley continued, “FIPS 201 is an important milestone for the biometrics industry, setting rigorous standards for the quality and performance of both fingerprint hardware and software, which we are proud to offer our partners in the SDA04. The FBI’s PIV testing ensures excellent image quality of the fingerprint hardware, while NIST’s MINEX testing ensures accuracy and interoperability of fingerprint template extraction and matching algorithms. I believe that over time, industry will come to adopt FIPS 201 requirements because they provide objective, third-party certification against rigorous standards.”

Won Lee, SecuGen’s CEO added, “Our team continues to turn out exceedingly high quality products that are priced economically. This has been our continued focus on creating products that our partners require in order to succeed in today’s competitive biometrics marketplace. The SDA04 is clearly a result of this focus.”

The SDA04 will be demonstrated at SecuGen’s booth # 517 at the Biometric Consortium and Technology Expo in Tampa, Florida from September 23 – 25, 2008.
