Press Release:
The Narconon Founder Promotes Drug Education
TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec, Canada, May 7 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Narconon Trois-Rivieres has recently been promoting a newly discovered drug education video delivered by the founder of the Narconon program, William Benitez. In this drug education video, Will was able to prove to the audience that any addiction can be overcome, and you do not have to live with it for the rest of your life. Today, addiction is labelled as a disease among other things. The everyday drug addict is looking for the miracle cure to overcome addiction, and is sometimes willing to do whatever it takes to get cured.
William Benitez was a former drug addict of 19 years, and was serving another sentence at the Arizona State Prison because of his addiction. He had made more than one attempt at getting clean. Will tells the crowd in the video, "After 19 years of being treated, probed, and picked at by psychiatrists, psychologists, and doctors...everybody was evaluating me, and telling me what my problems were. I noticed all of us addicts in prison were in the same boat. We did not know what the problem was."
In 1966, in his prison cell, Will made a decision to start a drug rehabilitation program for him and for all the other inmates in the prison. After finding and reading some philosophical text written by L. Ron Hubbard, in the prison library, Will discovered a new solution. The primary focus was not to label a person, and bring them down, the focus was to raise that individuals abilities, and give them back control over their life. Will was shocked at the information he read. It showed him how to focus on his own abilities rather then his disabilities. It was through this information that Will was able to start the first Narconon therapy group, and save his life and the lives of other inmates.
From its humble beginnings in the Arizona State Prison, the Narconon rehabilitation program has grown to over 150 centres in over 40 countries. Will later said in a letter, "Even back then, I knew the Narconon program would reach international proportions."
Mr. Benitez was living proof that one man, and a desire to find a workable solution for drug addiction, can create amazing things that helped save the lives of thousands of people. One of the most outstanding achievements of the Narconon program has been its stable success rate. In an Arizona State Prison staff report, it showed after one year, 75 percent of the Narconon students in the Arizona State Prison were crime and drug free. This information was documented and signed August 12, 1972.
