PRESS RELEASE Of interest to editors and journalists covering: Business/Finance, Employment/HR, DotCom, Outsourcing, NY Business News Outsourcing Poll Reveals Overwhelming Concern Among Workers NEW YORK, NY - July 16, 2004 /Send2Press Newswire/ -- An overwhelming 71% of Americans are concerned that the trend of outsourcing jobs to foreign countries will affect their job security or earning potential, according to an online survey conducted at the web site of career management firm BH Careers International (www.BHCareers.com). Nearly 1,239 visitors completed the survey that was conducted between April 15 and July 14, 2004. "Worker confidence was hit hard by years of high unemployment and a slow economy," said Jerry Weinger, Chairman of BH Careers International, whose company assists professionals and executives with job searches. "The outsourcing trend has added to that fear factor. The best solution is to be prepared -- especially if you work in a high-risk field like information technology or customer support. Don’t hang onto past job titles, instead identify which skills and accomplishments would be most valuable in other fields." Other recent statistics have also demonstrated that many professionals see outsourcing threatening their own workplace security. In a recent survey from the Employment Law Alliance (ELA), 30% of the respondents answered that they did know of someone, including a family member, friend or co-worker, who had lost a job due to offshoring. "If your industry is dying -- get out," said Weinger, whose company has offices throughout the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, the Middle East and Australia. "Fortunately, changing fields doesn’t always mean starting over. It’s a matter of selling the benefits of your past experiences to new employers." For those who are investigating new fields, Weinger advised, "Networking will open doors that a resume might not. Conduct information-gathering interviews that enable you to sell your expertise and build credibility with potential employers. These meetings often lead to job offers, and you aren’t competing with a huge pool of want-ad respondents who may offer more directly related experience on their resumes." Founded in 1947, BH Careers International has been a leader in pioneering effective job search strategies and tactics for professionals and executives.
