Innovative Physicians Offer a Better Way for Walk-In Urgent Care

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Sept. 21 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Greater Northwest Medical Group, a leading internal medicine and family practice medical group established in 1984, with offices in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, and Glenview, offers their patients a safe, effective, and comfortable alternative to walk-in urgent care treatment clinics.
In addition to urgent care clinics associated with healthcare organizations, new walk-in clinics are emerging in retail stores that dispense pharmaceuticals, such as Walgreens and Wal-Mart. Patients, ages 14 and older, with an acute illness or injury are able to come in without a pre-scheduled appointment to the Arlington Heights office, conveniently located at 1051 West Rand Road, every Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m., and on Sundays and Holidays from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Some typical urgent care conditions include sinus pain, migraine headache, ear pain, high fever, painful urination, sore throat, abdominal pain, and neck/shoulder/back injuries. The practice points out to its patients that urgent care should not be confused with emergency care for life-threatening conditions, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, excessive bleeding, and loss of consciousness. These are emergency care conditions requiring a call to "911."
Practice administrator, Michael Hartke, explains the reason Greater Northwest Medical Group has decided to offer these walk-in urgent care hours, "Many of our patients expressed the need for urgent care, especially during flu season, but do not feel comfortable being seen by someone unfamiliar with their medical history at an urgent care clinic. When a patient walks-in during our urgent care hours, the physician seen has immediate access to the patient's computerized electronic medical record (EMR). This record contains important medical history information, such as chronic conditions being treated, medication allergies, and other relevant information for the physician to carefully consider before prescribing treatment. This access to the patient's medical record is an asset that an urgent care clinic does not possess. Therefore, we are able to offer our patients both convenient access to urgent care and the confidence that their treatment decisions are high quality and based on thorough knowledge of their medical history."
