The snacks, which were presented to every athlete at the opening ceremony in the Olympic Village, include Snack-ens, a pretzel mix with bagel chips, craisins, salsa rice triangles and green apple chips to provide an even and constant supply of energy. In keeping with the Winter Olympics green mission and commitment to carbon neutral events, the snack packaging was custom created of PLA (polylactic acid) a compostable plastic film derived from corn starch. So - not only are the snacks healthy, delicious and not too filling - the packaging won't spend centuries clogging landfills.
