PORTLAND, OR (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- CD Baby ( announced today that they raised a total of $165,000 over the past 7 weeks in concert with independent musicians and record labels who banded together to donate proceeds from their online CD music sales. The funds raised were sent directly to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund through the Portland Oregon branch.

CD Baby also contributed $40,000, for a total of $205,060 donated for disaster relief. "You should have seen their faces when we brought in that very first check, in person, for $113,000!" said CD Baby founder Derek Sivers.

Musicians, bands, and independent record labels joined with CD Baby at the end of August to donate their entire wholesale price on music sales to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund. The special website set-up by CD Baby and which was retired Oct. 24th after seven weeks, showcased hundreds of independent musicians who helped with the hurricane relief effort by donating their profits to the Red Cross. CD Baby sent a personal email message to over 1 million CD Baby customers, telling them about the special promotion, encouraging them to buy some CDs from the special section.
